If you're driving a manual, performance car, you always stay in the right gear for maximum torque if it's needed. So, you both brake and shift when slowing.

Brakes are cheap and easy, clutches are not. But when I autocross on some curvy roads, I engine break to keep it in the power band. Other then that, USE THE BRAKES PEOPLE, thats what they were made for, not the clutch.

well, on a related topic, I engine brake my car, and its an auto.
like while cruising through neighborhoods, I keep it in "2" and I let it engine brake. some times on short streets I do it in 1st.
any other time, I use brakes

little bit of both i guess. Double clutch into 4th. and double into third... break shift into 2nd at about 20-mph. and stop with the breaks... never thought it was bad? Im open to suggestions! i figure this would be easer on the clutch matching the revs on a down shift, never thought i was being to hard on the transmission?
