Sara gets more bad news...
Sitting at Children's right now. Not much else to do, so I shall rant a bit...not that it will change anything.
She had a surgery today. The goal was to move the pipe that was being restricted to a location it could allow the kidney to drain.
Well...her tumors are growing, and the left kidney is basicly a lost cause now. Nothing they can do as the 'pipe' is surrounded by these tumors.
They are putting a stint in as a temporary drain, but it can't stay in forever.
Basicly she is 17 months old, and is already down a vital part. Very concerned that this may happen to the other kidney in the future too with her tumors growing.
Poor girl simply can't catch one fucking break....

Good luck man, we have a 3 year old girl that is healthy, and we just had a son 3 weeks ago, I can't even imagine what it must be like to be in your shoes. I hope everything works out for your family.

Thanks everybody!
She just needs to catch one break at some point.
I have this sinking feeling everytime I am here at the hospital that I will be burying her....not her burying me.

This is just a thought, but have you thought about going to St. Judes? They are great with kids, and it dosen't cost you anything if you can't afford the treatments.
Every time I see the comercials, it brings me to tears just thinking of those kids.

Coverage wise, we don't have a problem. Her insurance has been outstanding.
I am at the 3rd or 4th best-rated Children's in the US right now. The one here in Denver is top notch, and actually a brand new facility.
There are always other options though....and thanks for thinking of it.

Well....we are up in her room. She was awake for a few minutes, and decided it was time for a non-drug induced nap.
Her spirits seem good. She doesn't know any different though.
Sorry if my first post made it sound like she was on death's door...because she isn't. I am just terrified.

That sad, I really hope her other kidney stays healthy because I wouldn't wish dialisis on anyone let alone a kid. Things can turn around at any time though, a lot of things in medicine are inexplicable. They say ones mental state is a key factor in healing, so go buy her some ice cream and toys.

Thanks again everyone!
This is a slightly better version of today's events. Julie's words...
Overall, the surgery was not a success! Sara did well and handled it like a trooper, but her tumors prevented any manuvering of her kidney tube. The tumor surronds the entire tube, so there is no access to it what-so-ever! We reimplanted a stint to try and open the tube again, but we have no idea if it will work. Her drain tube is still in her side, but closed off to see if the internal stint will work. We will know in 2 weeks if that is the case.
As for the long term, the doctor explained that at this point we are prolonging the loss of the kidney. At some point it will no longer be able to drain at all, and that will mean it will need to be removed before it dies and causes infection and stuff. He also stated that probably at some point down the road, if the tumors continue to grow that she will have to have a permenant cathater inserted because the tumor will compromise her bladder as well. Overall, not a great day! Was hoping that this would go her way, but that isn't the case.
