I don't have a basement. They come in the garage when the door is up, or lay on the front porch (covered 8' x 36').
They have a dog house, fenced area (about .20 acre), several ponds, and around ten acres with plenty of woods. Trust me, they don't WANT to be inside.

No, but I knew lots of car dealers who could hook me up with different car-carriers. If yuo can get the car to a major area where car carriers run, you can sometimes get a spot on a carrier when they aren't fully loaded. It makes the price much more affordable.
I recall getting an offer to have a WS6 sent from the Boston area to Charlotte for something like $600-650, but I ended up buying locally.

I understand that. I always have big dogs, and I'm just old country. Around here, small dogs wouldn't fare well outside. Coyotes have started to establish themselves around the area. My dogs are mixed, but mostly lab. They have a great build, they aren't as thick as a full breed, have longer legs, but retain the large chest with a very small waist. They look something like an AKC lab mixed with a heavy greyhound.
They are fast enough that they have taken down deer, and strong enough to carry the carcass back to the house (that ticks me off).
