I hate all the new retro style's. The maro don't look that good, on top of that it has the same body as the challenger. What's up with that? I think the 4th gen is as good as it get's for the bird's. I mean I like em all. I would like to see a new one but only if it's a good one. None of this retro BS, have a little imagination.

To tell you the truth, I'd put money on it that the bird will come back stronger than ever. They're just waiting it out to see what they need to do to make it dominant. Why do think they called it the Firebird? A Phoenix will always be re-born.

Whether they want to or not.....with the whole CAFE thing i doubt they will be able to do it.

people do realize that CAFE doesn't mean that all the cars a company makes have to be under a certian mpg just that the average mpg of all their automobiles has to be under or at the standerd. how do you think the new ZR1 was built? it sure doesn't meet cafe standerds? plus you have to realize the new technology they have these days like AFM (active fuel management) and better tuning practices. if you build a car that gets 20 mpg and the cafe is 32 or 35 mpg or whatever then you just have to counter it with a line up of cars suv's or what have you that get really good mpg.

Personally, I would like it if they were to build a new firebird off of the Solistice platform. Make extremely aggresive and aerodynamic, no retro bullshit, just something that mix power with soft lines. I don't need any backseats and the car doesn't need to be huge like a corvette. A smaller car with a large engine bay, something like a Shelby GR-1 (looks-wise).

wow guy tell me to do my research....
i was referring to the fact that the later model f-bodies were only different in appearance.
let me rephrase, the 1st generation f-bodies had their differences.
firebirds had their own suspension, as well as there own series of motors.
camaros came with the rs and ss models.
trans am didn't come along until 69.
damn dude...need me to tell more?
I know my shit about the birds, i was just joking and dicks like u get all concerned

The 4th Gen trans am can't be topped. Buy a camaro when it comes out it's very sexy.. give styling a few more years and maybe. but not until 2015 atleast.

hey i hate to smack youin the face with reality. camaro came out then the bird. the bird in the long 35 years of runnin was more powerful, even if by a little the camaro, even the 98-02 models were. the new camaro, is going to die out just as long as it was planned up, maybe 2, 3 years max. back to sq one. fuel economy is bad. and sports car prices are frikin insane, well at leasts pontiacs. even if they do have the fuel shutoff deal, only the rich will be able to surely afford these cars without having to live paycheck to paycheck. and nobody rich is gonna buy one, compared to a corvette. i love camaros, and firebird, trans ams formulas, z's, ss, but finally realizing the facts sux.

Face it guys, GM will not build a Firebird. In the past, GM had too many "like" models based on the same theme with different badging... Why do you think they phased out Oldsmobile? This has hurt GM for some time. It all comes down to sales. As far as the G8? I'd bet you will see more of these on the road than the new Camaro. Not everyone is into this whole retro thing. Like it or not, lackluster sales killed the the 4th gen. cars, the numbers don't lie. Automakers profit from volume. After all the hype, I just don't see there being a huge demand for the Camaro, everyone that says they want one isn't necessarily going to go out and buy one... I think GM is responding to the success of the Mustang like they did in the '60's. They're playing a game of "catch-up" so to speak...

i say let them never build a new bird makes mine more valuable plus the only reason they are building a new camaro is because chevy car sale suck the only competive car they have is the malibu which is targetting the camry and honda crowd (and the new malibu is a sweet 4 door if you havent driven one go do that its an awesome car) the carmaro is coming after the mustang it will priced around the same as the mustang 18k for a 6cly und 30k for an ls3 plus ponitac has the car market covered for the younger generation with the g6 soltice and the gxp so long live the exsisting birds take of you cars gentlemen there will never be another one like it

I read this thread and see nothing but a bunch of folks who can't afford a new TA. The '98-'02 TA is a unique car at this point in time, it's affordable and at the same time the most current you can get. Some of you finally made it into the "cool" club because the current top of the line TA is cheaper than you can buy a new Honda Civic for. A "new" TA threatens that for some of you. Your car will instantly be a 10-year old relic if it isn't in mint condition. Your KBB value will be slashed.
Ford is dominating the market with their retro Mustang. Sales are through the roof. If GM can't make a statement of their muscle soon (Corvette doesn't cut it; not enough of them on the road), they will face extinction.
I say make a new TA. GTO died because it looks like a stupid Sunfire. Most people paying for power want it to make a visual statement as well. Some good hard aggressive retro styling will get the TA off the ground and moving fast!
I love my WS6! But fact is if a car company can't evolve with the times, it will die. Price it to compete with the Mustang and it will do fine.Last edited by intheclouds1977; 03-19-2008 at 08:12 AM.

I agree to an extent that the styling of the GTO was a big part of it's demise. I think it's price-point also was a factor. I think this also helped the sales of the Mustang. With the Mustang, you could save yourself some coin and still be driving a rear drive, V8 coupe... I'm disappointed over the whole GTO thing, I do think GM dropped the ball a bit on that one. It should have been a bit more aggressive, great car nonetheless... And just for the record, I'm not a Mustang fan!
And I'm getting WAY off topic!
