TA Bodyside moldings

Had my 2000 TA repainted. Does anyone have a trick to putting the bodyside moldings on straight. I know about using a tape line...any other ideas from all the expects.

LEAVE 'EM OFF!!!

1: your new paint will outshine them dramatically

2: it's a much cleaner look!

When I had my 93 painted I had them removed, looks much better.

Actually if he was getting it repaired already, more than likely he can spend the extra time to paint the molding as well. We JUST did that to a firebird in the shop that we have been working on the past week. It doesn't take that much paint, and more than likely you will have enough paint left over from over mixing to begin with.

besides, you dont really have to worry about door dings w/ our cars because they sit so low stock. more like window dings. haha

I keep hearing everyone say take them off - I do think it looks nice btw - but no one protesting it. When you take them off, how hard would it be to put them back on if you wanted to; as in, when pulling them off does it crack them up or anything?

I'd like to do it to my car.. but I worry about doing things like that which perhaps might be hard to easily reverse or hurt the value of my car. Also; say on an '02 with original paint would I have to worry about the paint beneath the side moldings being less faded than the original? I can't notice fading looking at the car, but it did come from sunny NC, I wonder if I'd see a difference.

I'm a worry-wort but I like to be careful.

Having those side moldings off would be a nice project for me to do this week perhaps and would definitely make my baby easier to shine up.

No idea. I pitched mine.
Mine didn't crack, but I would just purchase new ones if I wanted them back on for some odd reason.

I ended up using my thumb in the middle of summer. Although I regreted that...
Fishing line would probably work great. Just be patient.

sore thumb indeed...i was too lazy/cheap to go out and get a 3m foam tape remover wheel thingy and ended up w/ blisters. WELL WORTH the pain. every time i look at my car im like damn thats a sexy car. hah

Sweet.

I gathered up my extension cord, a hair dryer from the shop, and water and a mesh sponge and got to work! I took off a rear quarter piece first just to check for signs of any fading, etc. No fading! I'm taking them all off today. I have to run to town and grab some goo gone or equivilent though. The fishing line I had new in package is only for crappie so it's like 8 lb line..

that doesn't work well. Using my fingers (uh oh!), so I'll have some sore fingers by the end of the afternoon too. Wish me luck. It's cold outside (34 degrees) but its sunny and the hair dryer works wonders. I'll take pics later if I wash her up more.

I was smart and used my thumb under hair dryer also. After I finished I walked inside and saw some dental floss sitting on the counter (that woulda been handy). Leaves your car feeling minty fresh.

yeah, used my thumbs as well and i got blisters on me fingers...

to the OP leave them off. makes the car look so much cleaner...

i did this a long time ago on my monte carlo and liked the results until people decided to start banging into my doors with their doors.
