the question not gettin answered is was penn beating hughes on the ground in their 2nd fight? is hughes a great wrestler? if both of those are yes then penn is a great wrestler. i will go out on the limb and say if the fight happens penn will win. but we can just agree to disagree.

I was actually hoping youd say that cuz hes my retort.
No, I dont think Hughes is good at all. Yep, you heard it hear first folks.
Now, with that in place, I can see how Penn was about to beat Hughes at the end of that round (which 1 was it? 2nd?). However, Penn didnt win. Sure there is always an excuse, but he lost. To a bullshit fighter.
I never thought Hughes was good at all. Which is why I wanted him to fight Serra more than GSP last time. I am on the fence about Serra as well and believe that he just got lucky with GSP. Its only customary to have Hughes fight Serra, if for no other reason, cuz of all the shit talk. But I am going off on a tangent.
Comparing Sherk to Penn is difficult to see right now cuz of the steroid shit. Now its a question if Sherk won all those fights because of a controlled substance.
Either way, even though I dont think Sherk is an exciting fighter, I dont think hell lose. And hes had all this time to train and think about this shit, so this should be a good fight, but if Sherk does win...naturally, I wont be surprised.

penn was beating hughes yes, but hughes is not even close to the caliber of wrestler that sherk is. people dont like sherk because he doesnt ko people or submit them. but i love how people think he sucks because of that which is totally the opposite. Not many people can control an entire match of 5 rounds and be ready for more at the end. Everyone knows what he is going to do and he still does it. i think that is the definition of a great fighter.

But if he doesnt KO anyone, then what is his tactic? Just score points and hope for the best? I am really asking, I am not being smart ass.
On another forum, people were saying Sherk "doesnt want to strike with Penn."

but he beat sherk in what was basically a wrestling match. that fight was on the ground and hughes won 4 out of 5 rounds. as far as the hof, he hasnt beatin enough good fighters to be in it. yes he has a great mma record. but we're talkin about the ufc hof. my def of a great fighter is being able to beat another proven great fighter, imo hes come up short so far.

no doubt serra got lucky, gsp looked right past him and paid the price. cant be surprized by the outcome of any mma fight because its a fight. but seriously sherk is one of the first guys i would have pointed fingers at for juicing. him and that asshole baroni. if you think hughes is/was no good, curious what you think of sherk?

Hard to say. Steroids isnt going to make you a fighter by itself. Its just another tool. Take the PRIDE fighters for example. They arent doing too good, but the removal of possible steroids is just one of a few reason why they arent doing all that great. Theyre still good fighters, with or without steroids. I know I wouldnt want to fight ANY of them, even if theyre clean.
So to say Sherk is winning cuz of juice (I know its not the only reason) is shooting in the dark. Plus, I believe he had like some sort of small amount that wouldn invoke much of a difference in field.
Now if were talking technique, yes, I think sherk would out wrestle Hughes if they were in the same weight class, but again, thats not saying much.

but they were in the same weight class and hughes did out wrestle him. not sure what it is, some guys from pride have done well others not. goin from a ring to a cage is part of it. no four point leg strikes is another. the biggest surprise has to be shogun. we'll have to see his next fight to be sure. in another note did you guys see the clip of lesnar hittin the targets, impressive. i predict he takes mir down and pounds him into a ref stoppage. we all know mir hates to be hit.

I dont think he out wrestled him considering it went to a 5th round decision. Hughes out wrestled a 5'5" guy? He dominated and won a unanimous decision, but you can see why he dropped down in weight..which would explain his loss to GSP too.
In the weight class hes in now, he could and would be a beast.

Are we gonna use this thread to break down/make predictions for this weekend's Card?
Poll question:
If you could only see only one fight which one would it be?:
A - Mir vs Lesner
B - Big Nog vs Timmay

I am having this same debate over on another forum and to tell you the truth, all this arguing is making this fight become more and more anticipated.
