I really wanted wanderlei to win. A rematch between Rampage and Silva would've been great. But it was a good fight regardless. Chuck fought this one smart and deserved the win. I thought he was going to do the same old stuff he's been doing, but he did takedowns, he kept his hands up, he used leg kicks. It was a pleasure seeing GSP dominate hughes so thoroughly through.

Hughes is my boy but I was really let down with his showing. It was like he wasn’t even there. I had a good feeling the GSP was going to take it. Hughes has even said that he doesnt want to fight anymore. He is much happier working his farm and taking care of his family. Much respect to Silva, that guy has a head like a fire hydrant

+1 it was an excellent card.
It was a relief that Wandy had a great preformance even in the loss.
After Sokoudjou came in with the Predator mask and was owned I was happy not all former Pride fighters are tomato cans.

Hughes will have one fight left with Serra for his farewell as GSP with get the belt back and they can have their 'gudge match'.
Also an MMA note the 'Freak show in Japan' is completed with Fedor (David) defeating HMC (Goliath) in the first round:

Hopefully the Randy vs. Fedor fight comes to pass in 2008!

UFC 79
I thought the card sucked. Seriously, almost all the fights except Liddells and GSPs were boring.
About Silva/Liddell, I thought either it was rigged or Silva wasnt 100%. Where was his fire? Even in his last losses, he had more energy than this shit. Plus, I noticed his 'drive' dramatically dropped after he knocked Liddell on his ass twice (one was a slip). Anyone notice that? He backed up after he hit him on the button! What, cuz hes still used to Pride's rules? If thats so, he still wouldve charged him after he knocked him down. Kinda fucking fishy. Silvas reach was dramatically shorter than Liddells, but some of Silvas swings looked pulled back. Bottom line, when you look at this from a business stand point, why let UFCs grandchild (Liddell) lose against an opponent that was always believed to beat him if they ever matched up? Especially a guy that hasnt made a substantial history in the UFC...? I could be wrong, but if I am, Silva was not fighting like he normally does.
As far as the Hughes/GSP fight went....I CALLED THAT FUCKING SHIT!!!!! Hughes was done before he entered the octagon! Fuck him! Total domination. And I loved it. I never thought he was a great figher at all from the beginning and now after seeing the latest show, my reasons for not liking him are now complete. I raced home, sobered up, and watched that shit again on the internet (watched the liddell fight too on You Tube while it was up)
I love GSP, but I really wanted to see Serra fight Hughes. I love a hated fight.

Yeah I saw the Fedor fight on YouTube. I am convinced he is the greatest fighter ever. He got fucked up in a minute and a half, but I cant believe he beat that giant pile of shit down. That monster he fought has like ZERO ground game I believe..
Oh and that predator mask thing...you cant do that in the ufc
Almost everyone loses if they come out wearing a mask.

You cannot ever count Randy out as that is when he proves the entire world wrong.
He will be the underdog against Fedor but he still has a chance against the Terminator:

The Fedor fight was a freak show imo nothing more. HMC had one MMA fight so he had no business in the ring against the p4p fighter on the planet.
He should lose that title (read: GOAT = greatest of all time) unless the randy fight happens in 2008 imo.
If Fedor continues to fight 'cans not ranked in the top 100 then GSP could easily take the p4p title away.
I really do not see anyone in the same class as GSP at WW in the world.
He has some fights left for sure. I will go to Montreal in april if indeed, the UFC comes to Canada as many of my friends have records and cannot go into the USA (read: Vegas) to see a live fight.
I see maybe Fitch being the next fight (after Serra) but then who is next?
It would be nice if GSP goes up to MW and fights the winner of Andy Silva vs Hendo for a 'mega fight'

Has GSP always been a WW?
All this talk about Randy vs. Couture is getting old. I mean, where is Randy? Is he even training? If he wants to fight Fedor so badly, cant he go to HIM? I want to see it as much as anyone else, but I do believe age will catch up him eventually. When it does, you got millions of fans saying "they should fought when he was in his prime." I dont blame them.
It actually reminds me of all teh Silva vs. Liddell talk years ago. I dont think anyone spoke about Fedor vs. anyone in particuliar cuz there wasnt any real good HWs in UFC back then. Randy was a LW and the HWs that were available were Slobbed out Sylvia, Monson, Mir, and one hopeful which was Arlowski (sp?).
I was pissed that Liddell won, but when GSP not only won, but DESTROYED Hughes, I was amazed. I went fucking ape shit when it looked like he was going to take Hughes out the same way he lost (Kimora; ep?). I hoisted up my boss (who is a 120lb 25 year old girl) above my head and cheered.
Some asshole next to me tried to do the same thing with another girl, but he wasnt strong enough (or too drunk) and both of them dropped to the beer covered floor of Hooters, Gainesville, FL.

I'm a chuck fan, SO I am glad to see him win. I don't think that fight was 'rigged' -- I think Vanderla (spelling?) got rocked and then got scared. He has a tough chin, I'll give him that -- I will also give it to Liddell - because he had a few strong punches come his way too.
I hate GSP ( I don't really even have a reason, but I do) -- I also don't care for Hughes,
I was hoping Hughes would win, but I knew that was doubtful.
The other fights were crap.

Yes GSP has always fought at WW. But he is 'huge' for that wieght imo so it could be a p4p match against himself and Andy.
I used to think GSP had the best striking skillz of the division, but know I think he also has the best wrestling/judo of all the ww's in the world!!

Fedor is not human....

I'm a Chuck fan too and of course, I'm glad he won. He definitely controlled the fight and Silva has a steel chin. I was amazed the fight went the distance, I thought for sure one would knock the other out.
I think Hughes was beat before he ever walked in. I picked GSP to win, but I (as you did) didn't think he'd dominate him that badly.

No, I don't think Fedor can lose the greatest of all time title like that. It doesn't matter what happens next, if he goes on to beat up little old ladies for the rest of his life. Nobody else has a record like his and GOAT is based on a guys record. And it has to be someone. If not fedor, than who? He was like a god up until a year or two ago. The record he built during that time is without a doubt the greatest there's ever been in MMA, which means he's the GOAT, until someone builds up a better record than him.

if it was based on records alone there are people with better records than him, and honestly that would make Sean Sherk in the top 5 of greatest fighters because he has only lost 2 fights. It is not based only on records but quality of oponents, and if he keeps fighting scrubs like he has been than he definitatly wont be considered the best ever.

I do think it is based on records alone, and maybe notoriety. Current rank definately doesn't factor in. It doesn't matter if his skills degrade now or in the future. The current Jordan or Ali would get their asses kicked by the best current basketball players and boxers respectively, but they're still the GOATs. Fedor did have quality opponents. He fought the best of the best in what was considered the most stacked division at the time. Crocop, Big nog x 3, Fujita, Coleman, etc when they were in their primes. And he absolutely dominated most of the time. He was your favorite fighter's favorite fighter. Who has a better record after so many fights against top 10 opponents, holding onto the title for so long? Don't even think about saying Rickson or Shamrock.

But his record was based on the assumption that Pride had the best fighters in the world.
Now that the UFC has purchased Pride and are having all our 'dream match-ups' this assumption has turned out to be false.
To me this means he must start (at least try) to fight top ten HW or his title, not only the p4p title but goat will be forfeit.

i somewhat agree with you. pride fighters havent done as well(except a. silva and rampage). but i think a lot has to do with the fact they're fighting in cages now. fedor like myself hates dana white. he was offered a lot to fight couture and turned it down. btw if shogun actually trains for his next fight he will beat whoever he fights. my .02
