Ford stopped using a very reliable 7.3 to go to that 6L too. The 7.3 didn't make a bunch of power but at least it was dependable. That 6L was just pure garbage.

"Dependable" describing a Ford should never be in the same sentence.

I really like my Chrysler 2.7. First one was an 02 and I sold that car with all but 200k on it. Yes original motor. and I have a second one now that has over 100k. Very reliable. They just need some love is all. That Chrysler 2.7 has got to be the GOAT of terrible engines
I think the worst engine I ever dealt with was in a Vega.

The problems with the Navistar 6.0 and 6.4 Powerstroke engines are what made Ford abandon Navistar as the engine supplier for their heavy duty trucks.
Ford went with the 6.0 due to the more modern and powerful offerings like the 24v Cummins and Duramax from Dodge and GM.
The 7.3, while reliable, simply couldn't hang with the power and torque of the other guys so apparently Navistar rushed the 6.0 out the door to compete.
The 6.7 Powerstroke is an in-house Ford design.
It seems that most of the problems modern diesels encounter now stem from the EPA emissions add ons and not the engine itself.
Edit: Oh yeah, worst engines.
Gotta give a nod to the GM 2.8 V6 that they foisted on themselves and Jeep.
Genuine dud of an engine.Last edited by CJREX; 02-07-2018 at 09:00 AM.

I read online all the time of people having issues with this 2.7l engine. My experience and that of many friends of mine is different. I will admit you have to go the extra on maintenance. Fluid changes, pcv, air filters, so forth. And not abuse it. It's not a high performance motor. But in my Sebring convertible, it works great for every day driving.Sorry man......i find that hard to believe...

I was talking to a guy at a car show a while back. He had a Pantera, really nice car. Said he spent $60k to get the original motor fully built, but that it still leaks oil after 5 trips back to the shop, and a couple second opinions. The last shop finally told him it was due to tolerance issues on the 351 Cleveland motors, and there wasn't really anything that could be done to fix the problem. Just something that crossed my mind that somewhat fits the subject. Does the 351 have this stigma tied to it consistently? I don't know much about older Ford engines.
