No traction at all?
Got a quick question i have an automatic and am about to get 3.73 gears installed. I do quite a bit of street racing, but I have heard that I will get absolutly no traction on street tires with the new gears. I have 286/40/18 tires on the rear. Is it really worth installing the new gears if I won't be able to get traction?

look at it this way, if you have traction issues now, its going to be worse

Get the Gears the car will still accelerate harder you'll just have to learn to work the throttle differently.

I had traction issues before my 3.73s so a week before I put in my 3.73s I went and bought some Nitto555Rs hands down they hook up like no other ! I street raced a EVO/AWD and he was taking off at 5k rpm and I was at 1900rpm/a4 and he didnt get any jump on me...Get tires ! no point in spending any money on performance and not getting it to the ground properly. The Nittos would be perfect for your mods and they do really good in the rain. Just a suggestion but I highly recomend it.

My technique was buying 315/35's in the rear and fixed all my traction issues.
As far as with street tires I would just ease into the throttle until I got to about 20mph then have it at WOT.Still gonna get fishy when it hits second gear.
You could also try some softer struts in the rear for some weight transfer.

Bro, I have 4.11's. You just gotta know how to throttle it right. Gears are amazing trust me. Do it you will not regret it. Its like with anything you have to learn to control it. Don't let anyone spook you from installing them.

ok so whats the widest tire that will fit on a stock 00 SS 17" rim?? Is it even worth it, or do I need new rims?

Hell yeah it's worth it!!!
Its not like you cant leave a light without spinning you cant just hit WOT at a stop and expect to just hook up and go.
If you have the ss wheels You should have the 275/40 right?
try and find to softer tread in that size .
check the wheels and ties section they have lots of info on tires wheels etc.

Nittos from a dead stop will spin just as bad as any other tire. Ill spin first all day and night if i really get into it. Nittos only grip really well after they have been heated up. I have yet to find a set of tires that grip really good without some heating. Dont be afraid of the gears though! They make your car so much more fun to drive. Just learn to be easy on the throttle at first, then let her rip!
