Gear question
I while back I was looking at a camaro LT1 M6 pretty built and it had 3.73 gears. I know it is the reccommended gears for autos. I am just curious is there any kind of advantage of having 3.73 over 4.10 gears on a M6 and vis versa? Is there less of a chance for the rear end to snap with the 3.73?

IMO 3.73's is a waste of money with a 6 speed. There might be a 150-200 rpm difference between 3.73 and 4.10's, I went with 4,30's on my new 9"

I've seen stock cars with m-6 grenade their rear, not a matter of IF its a matter of WHEN. You want to play? your going to have to pay.

Like I said you have 2 pay to play. The 10 bolt is a pyle of crap. Drive your camaro like your grandma, don't take it to the track, don't do burnouts, Don't do light to light races, Yes your 10 bolt will last for a while. Go to the track, dump your clutch a few times, Yes it might last a little while but you better know a friend with a truck and trailer. It will eventually let you down. These cars where not built to go to the track. Modifcations to the drivetrain are badly needed to take any kind of abuse at all.

Not really. People waste a lot of $$ trying to "build" their 10 bolts. You're way better off just getting a 9" to begin with.

I'm putting down 470+ at the crank, and know that all it takes is one hard launch to break the stock rear end. I "girdled" mine as a temp. band-aid until I save up the 2 grand. I'm going to go with a Moser 12 bolt. Gonna have 4:11's in there too! Lookin' forward to it, and in the mean time, I have all this power, and I have not launched it hard even ONE time for the very reason JAYS00SS was talking about. It's Russian roulette.

Not really it's a waste of money to try. Just save for a 9, 12 bolt or S60. You don't want to go 8.8 either not as strong as the others and there is fab work involved. Best bet is to not launch your car hard, don't bolt up slicks and save $$$ for a new rear end.
I have a rebuilt 10 bolt with 410s. I drive it pretty hard but never launch over 2500 and I have yet to put DRs on. I'm sure with a few more bolt ons and some track passes it will go. Hopefully I can get a 9in before that happens.
Like everyone is saying it's not a matter of will it break but when.

Jetstream Blue Metallic- 2008 Z06 Corvette
I started with 405HP cuz it's a Z06 LS6 crate engine, and I have the usual mods...cam, LT headers, CAI, full length LM system, full on tune, bla bla bla...so 470+ isn't really that much, but it drained the ol savings account to do it all at once! So, at this time I only have about 1700 miles on her, I've really only just got past the broken in stage. I've put my foot in her a few times , but always from a roll. I've beat a couple of unsuspecting Z06's, not to mention a few Mustangs, and more than my share of bowls of rice!
But the Vette's were from a roll [one was on the freeway] and the others were from stops. I just have not launched her HARD. The girdle has appeared to help because it's still in one piece. But I'm running street tires (285's) on stock rims. I know that she'll break into the low 12's if not high 11's with the 12 bolt and 4:11's. But for right now, I simply do NOT trust that wimpy rear end!
