Replacing broken Ls1 engine -- comment please
At a recent road racing drivers school, I blew up my LS1 engine. For the last 3 weeks, I have been researching what to replace it with. I have come up with the following:
L92 block finished bored to 4.065" (or 4.068"?)
Callies CompStar 4.0" stroker crank
Callies ComStar 6.125" H-beam rods
Diamond or other pistons
==== 416 cu.in.
BTW: SDPC has a short block like this.
I have not decided on the cam.
Also, I want to re-use my CompCams 921 dual valve springs, and 1.85 ratio roller rockers. I think that my Patriot Performance heads will not flow enough air, therefore, I will need new heads, maybe ET Performance.
Any comments or tips?
EDIT already: I will also re-use the hi-flow air lid, GMAF, LS6 intake, may need a bigger TB, as well as, 36#/hr injectors.Last edited by Doc99SS; 09-10-2007 at 05:07 PM. Reason: forgetfulness

If you are dead set on keeping the ls6 intake, those new ET heads will not gain you much over the other heads.
I would go with a ported fast on that setup, unless you race ALOT, and then I would go with a Beck sheetmetal......

Thank you for the replies.
1) Good comment on the LS6 intake,, does anyone have comparitive flow numbers for LS style intakes? How much better is a ported FAST intake over the LS6 intake?
2) I have been talked out of re-using by PP heads, the ET heads that I refer to are not L92 type heads. I do not want to use the L92 type heads because of the offset intake rocker. I would really like to re-use my 1.85 ratio CC full roller rockers.
3) I dont know anything about the LS3, is it even out yet? I would prefer to stick to stuff thats been around for at least a couple years for development.

If you want the extra power, the FAST intake is worth it. I've seen FAST 90mm pick up from 10 to almost 20 horse over the LS6. If your going to race it a lot and see very little street action, a sheet metal would probably be better.

I know, Wilson builds some awesome sheet metal intakes, but for a street car you don't usually want a sheet metal and most people don't want to drop that kind of money on one. I know I would if I had the extra dough to toss around.

i would put a ls6 in it and use the partrs that work of the ls1 to the ls6 including the intake wont be that much trouble cause the engine hooks right up to the ls1 computer in the link listed u can get a brand new ls6 for $3000 just my.2 cents... http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...-P1625C63.aspx

L92 heads+L76intake will more than make up any loss from your rockers and you will save boatloads of money and support way more HP. Hell GM sells the L76 intake with 90mm throttle body, rails and 39# injectors for around 550$ last I checked (GM part # 12590123 )and the L92's are cheap as well. With the money you could save going that route you can get the roller rockers for the L92's. Thats the route I plan on going with on my engine replacement only I'm just going with an LS2 402. All together I priced roughly 5K for all reusing my cam and valvetrain.

Does anyone have comparison flow numbers for the LS1, LS6, FAST, and L76 intakes?
Another ?: Would my LS1 harness and TPS work with the L76 intake & TB ?

Harness yes, with some slight modifications. However you will have to get a different TB as the L76 TB is a drive by wire and you need a cable TB.
