Xbox 360 Question
I know this is a weird place to be posting this, but bear with me. All 3 of my Xbox 360's in my household are displaying 3 red lights. This means that the fans for the unit arent turning on. I lost the reciepts for them. So I was wondering if anyone would send me a copy of their reciept. I would prefer to take it back to walmart or something like that, and they only honor 30 days later. I tried to exchange it before, but california walmarts arent anything like the ones back home. Can anyone help me out. Thanks.

Regardless of when you bought it, reciept or not, Microsoft is replacing all Xbox360s that display 3 red lights around the power button. Go to their website for more info.

I took a look at it once. It just seems like a pain in the ass. Mostly b/c none of the xbox's in the house have a reciept to them. Which makes it really hard. I have to write people to get them. You know you would think that you wouldnt need it at all since the darn things came out in Nov 04.

No man... you dont need a receipt... the three red lights of death/doom happened to me as well... its easy:
1. You call up Microsofts xbox support line (look for it on their website)
2. You tell them your info like your name, address, etc and your X360's Serial Number (on the sticker on the back of the console)
3. They send you a box in the mail.
4. You put your X360 in the box (only the console, no wires, hdd, controllers, etc).
5. You send the box with said X360 in it back to them.
6. Wait for a while (I got mine back in 2 weeks)
7. The box comes back with a new console, an apology letter, and a Free 1 month subscription for Xbox live gold.

Deja vu....
Anyways....
If anybody cares to know why the problem actually occurs, I will tell you. (because I am SO helpful like that
)
Microsoft decided that it would be an awesome idea to use a metal for its connections between the GPU (not the CPU) and the circut board that has an extremely low expansion rate, while the board itself, has a relatively high expansion rate... Whats that mean for you? After you heat cycle the system enough times, one of the connections pops off, and you get the 3 rings of death.
The good news? Aside from the new 3 year warentee MS enacted to stop the huge class action lawsuit that was looming over its head, if for some reason you have taken your XBOX apart(which voids even the new warentee), its really an easy fix for anybody who knows how to solder.
Thats all!

It was just one of the connections. Where at on the xbox? Do you have any pics of the wire needed to solder? I can solder, thats why I am asking. Plus my buddy I think took his apart. Thanks.

I've returned a couple of x-box 360's to walmart. Fortunately I had the receipts but FYI, they always make sure the number on the receipt matches the one on the 360.

I'm sure that it all depends on which one that you go to. I have returned other systems in the past, and have had no problems with it.
I managed to contact xbox about it, and they are going to fix them. Thanks

Even though people have been successful with numerous fixes for the problem, like taking the Xbox apart or wrapping it in a towel and running it (search youtube for that one), to me it doesn't seem worth it, since the company that made them is offering replacements or repairs on all affected consoles, regardless of when it was produced, entirely free. You can try those options mentioned before in this post, but if they break your Xbox further, you're shit out of luck, as Microsoft sure as hell isn't going to repair or replace an altered console.
