LS1 mods: how many extra HP?
Hello all,
I'm driving a 1999 Camaro Z28 with the LS1 auto. in The Netherlands. The standard HP is OK, but I'd like some more horses...
My thoughts are to add LS6 heads, intake and cam to the LS1. Maybe (if I can get them) a pair of Callaway heads...
How much extra horsepower will I get compared to a standard LS1 in my Camaro?
What are the other (little) things I need to think about before starting this project?
Any suggestions would be welcome!

a heads and cam setup should put you over 400 rwhp which is 100 more than stock

Thanks, so I think I have a plan here...
Anbody able to help with info on the Callaway heads?
I was there (at Callaway's) a month ago, but now I've mailed I don't get any replies...
Beside the 'big stuff' (intake, heads and cam) what small stuff is needed or needs attention?

Email Chris Chessnoe: cchessnoe@callawaycars.com. He is the manager of the Callaway Corvette Program in Old Lyme, Ct. and should be able to help you.
Or, since you are in the Nethelands, you can contact Ernst Woehr, who is the managing director of the Callaway program in Europe in Leingarten, Germany at ernst@callawaycars.de
Hope this helps.Last edited by fxgs; 09-25-2008 at 02:35 PM.

You'll want to raise your compression so go with either 5.3 heads or 59 cc LS6 heads. Choose your cam on what you want out of the car. Big cam's will typically loose torque down low so you might want to stick with a mid range cam if it's a daily driver. You'll need a new torque converter with a bigger stall to go with the cam. There's a bunch of other little things you'll need also like timing chain, oil pump, and ud pulley. Find yourself an LS6 intake and some headers and you'll be looking at 400 rwhp. It's all in what you want to spend and what you want out of your set-up.
