How much is an aluminum block worth?
I have a friend that has offered me his block. He has a 1998 Trans Am LS1. He recently snapped a head bolt off in block. He went to a local machine shop and they said they didn't want to touch it, so he gave up basically. He offered me the block with the snapped head bolt, stock cam, stock exhaust manifolds, stock intake, stock injectors, stock fuel rail, stock oil pump, stock clutch and pressure plate, and stock flywheel for $450.00. I am wondering if it is worth it, and how much money would it cost me to comlete the rest of this engine. I still need internals, heads, crank, computer, wiring. Is $450 cheap? Thanks for the help.

98 blocks have the thinnest cylinder sleeves.

i would say go for it, a cheap ls1, but i would also check out how bad the area where the bolt snapped off. if he tried to get it out and f'd the deck all up i would steer clear.

How many miles are on the block? Why was he pulling the heads? Its not so much a steal but a decent price. What are you planning on doing with the motor?
J2001 SS, Its not the car its the Driver that matters....
