    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

clear coating in engine, please help

I wanna clearcoat my intake manifold but dont' wanna go through the hell of removing it. anybody got any tips/tricks? Can i just hose the sucker down with a spray-can of clear-coat from auto zone? Is it a bad thing if i get overspray on the coilpacks/wiring/fluid lines that run across it?

    thanks!

All I can say is ask a detail shop. Some are known to do that to engines so they will look good again.

Dont use any old clear coat. The heat from the engine itself will yellow the clearcoat. I use Duplicolors 500* Ceramic clear coat... works great under the hood. 3 years with no peeling. I'd unbolt the coil packs and move everything you possibly could, then mask everything you dont want painted with tape. Its a lot of work, but to avoid removing the intake, thats the only way I'd approach it.

with my last two TAs taking on and off the intake manifold so often i was able to get that sucker off in 20 mins lol... it's wise to take it off to do that because you really should lightly sand it before clearing esp if the paint's been on for a long time. you may need to degrease it too. spray can clear coats are cheap though... do not spray a lot of coats and do not make them really thick or they will turn yellow no matter the brand. i get my clear coat by the gallon from our local napa store who also custom mixes automotive paint.. great in saving me a trip since it's so close. if you must use a spray can clear i would also suggest the duplicolor high temp clear in light few coats.
