how difficult is it to open a franchise?
there as a local restauraunt that is for sale right on a main highway that im looking into investing in. if the price is right, id like to turn it into a franchise coffee or fast food restauraunt. has anyone here either opened any kind of franshise? i have been doing research on initial costs, setup, etc. but i want to hear how it is like from someone that has actually done it. thanks

It is totally dependent on what franchiser you are planning to work with. McDonalds is very difficult and expensive to get into.
In the 90's when McD's was growing like crazy they were letting a lot of "son's of owners" to take over the restaurants. They would let anyone with the cash build a McDonalds. They are now regretting that and being very picky about who becomes and owner/operator and how much control they have.
Subway is now doing what McDonalds did in the 90's. They are trying to grow like crazy and it is very easy to get into a subway. Also, the average McDonalds has sales of $1.8 to $2mil annually. An average Subway has annual sales of $450k to $500k.
Having said that, I have worked with both restaurants and I would go with McDonald's. I currently work in a $2.5mil store and a $3mil store.
