AC delete in colder months?

So my AC compressor locked up this weekend so I took off the belt. The car feels a lot smoother and seems to idle better and all around FEEL better.

Im thinking of when it gets colder just taking the belt off.

Anyone with me?

ive herd that the compresser runs with the defroster. i dont know if it is true or not though.

my defroster blows out some hot ass heat with it undone. Everything works fine cept no cold air.

cool then it wouldnt be a bad idea for a little more power in winter.

I want to totally remove all my ac. Will my heat still work? I do not want to loose my def. vents or heat.

I have no A/C compressor or lines.

Heater and defroster still work fine. Don't get that really cold air out of the defroster though anymore.

Most of the reason people remove the A/C is for weight purposes. Not power.

The defrost does use the condensor so that you get dry air so it "defrosts" the windows. Look what happens when you breath on a cold window. the moisure condences.

I read somewhere that deleting the A/C shaves off close to 100lbs...anyone know if that's true?

This is if you can the heater core as well.

How much are you looking at w/ A/C only then?

The condenser is the heaviest part....

Maybe 45-50 pounds. I left it off trying to offset the iron block a little.

This is true. The auto manufactures say you need the compressor to help dry out the air going thru the defrost. But, with all the older cars on the road w/o AC, their defrosts work fine.

The main reason I heard is that no one runs their AC during the winter, and that would allow the largely unused compressors to lock up or go bad thru non use.

My defrost works great. It was in the high 50s last night and it did the same as it always does. My truck doesnt even have the selection for AC and it works great too.

The compressor not getting used though would probably degrade it

The defroster function of the HVAC system in a vehicle uses both the heater and the AC. Moister on the window can be removed easier using a vehicle that is equipped with both units. To reduce humidity the air is cooled and then heated slightly. This process removes moisture from the air. Yes, heat will remove condensation from the windows. The AC just makes it quicker - especially if it is due to humidity (summer time!) In addition, the seals in the AC system can go bad from lack of use. As far as gains…the clutch only runs when the AC is being used. The belt is just in free mode all other times. You do not lose a noticeable (if any) HP. Removing the AC system reduces weight of the vehicle and thus you can gain some “power.” Really, it comes down to if you enjoy riding in a hot car.

I wish my car came without AC. I never use it here in upstate NY. Just more weight and something else to break. I run it once in a while to keep things from setting up, but I just don't need it. when it comes time for a new engine, it's AC delete for me

AC is mandatory in Florida! Otherwise, it would be like riding around in an oven.

If you have a daily driver and unhook the belt in the winter, the most noticable gain will be from colder air. When I was younger I used to keep the A/C off and just roll down the window in the summer, always had vegas then. In my Firebird I have the t tops and black leather interior, it is a oven for the first 10 - 15 min. No way I would get rid of the A/C.
