    2002 SS Ram Air Question.....

I am new to Camaros and have just sent payment to the current owner for the purchase of a 2002 Camaro SS (6-Speed), contingent on my inspection next week.

I know the SS is supposed to have ram air induction, but in the pictures I have seen it appears the hood scoop is behind the air cleaner.

Can someone explain how the SS ram air works, and how I can be sure this is a genuine SS or if it just has an SS hood?

    Thanks in advance.

The air goes through the scoop and routes through the ducts in the hood and into the airbox. If ya look under the hood it kinda looks like a "ram's head".

Basically what the above said-the sad part is the hood gets hot when you sit around so it warms up the air coming in-don't worry you won't misss any power.

the air hits the scoop and dose a 180 to the front of the hood and theres an opening in the front of the hood by the air box stupid idea do the free ram air mod or slp flow pack imo

If curious about the true identity of the car check the driver door codes.

You'll find WU8 among the codes that signifies a real deal SS. If it has SLP options on top of the SS package, you'll find an SLP door sticker in the passenger door listing those options as well.

Thanks for all the great answers, I appreciate it! One more question....if someone bought a SS style hood, would it work with a standard Z28 intake, or does the Std. Z28 normally take the air from the front of the grille?

On a real SS the factory put little rubber pieces up on the hood and a rubber lip on the lower opening you see above to get the air from the hood also.

Guys, thanks for everything. You've explained and shown me a lot. I feel much more confident now. I understand how it works, and can check the door stickers for OEM authenticity.

    Great Group!

More later after I pick it up, I'm sure. Oh, by the way, it's a 2002 SS with T-Tops, 37,000 miles, Blue/Black, new tires, looks like new from the pictures. Getting from a dealer in Florida. $14,300 + tax, etc.

Hey, thanks for the advice, but it is too late! I didn't find any for less when I was looking, but I was looking for an unmolested, stock car, with a minimum of (or no) modifications and no more than 40K on the odometer. I did see plenty of ones with over 100K miles on them, but wanted to put those miles on myself.

I'm new here, are you allowed to post a link to the ad on e-bay? They had about 30 pictures there.

Here is the item # if you would like to see it on e-bay:
    3203 9198 5386

It should come right up if you do a search.

If I can post a link, I will do that also.

How do you know there is a catback exhaust? It was boomy in 1st to 4th, louder than I thought stock would be, so I thought it might not be OEM. The guy at the dealership did not know if it was stock or not.

The Audi stickers peeled right off!
