Does a 1998 z/28 have a anti siphon screen?

Need to find out if a 98 z/28 has a anti siphon screen in the gas fill neck? And if it does- will a1 /4" or 1/8" gas line fit through the center of it?

I need to drain some gas out because the car has been sitting a long time. It isn't possible to get under the car to drain it using the fuel pump so.......

in your case I would do the trap door mod. that way you can remove the fuel pump and get all of the bad gas out and inspect the tank.

I would pop the fuel line off the fuel rail and put a hose on it. Then jump the fuel pump relay and let it pump into at gas can.

Nah that won't be happening till the fuel pump dies. I used stabil but it's time for new gas. I just need to know if it has a screen and if it does will a small diameter hose fit through the center of it.

You can try it but it's not likely to work..

Best bet:

A) pull a fuel line off the rail, jam a hose on the end of it, turn the key on (don't start it) and pump it into a can.

B) remove the filler hose crimped connector @ the tank inlet and syphon there.

-- B1: you'll have to use a hose clamp to replace the filler hose to the tank as the factory crimp clamp has to be ruined to remove it.

C) drop the tank and dump it out..

D) add a can of octane boost or some fresh gas and run it..

I appreciate the reply but it worked for some guys on YouTube although it wasn't a camaro it was a vw and tbh I don't know for sure a98z28 has a siphon block. Apparently the block only prevents larger sized hoses ( like a garden hose) from getting to the tank. I just figured I would ask here before messing with it.

I really don't want to jump the fuel pump to empty it and I don't want to sit there turning the pump on with the key 100 times and no way in hell is the tank coming off to drain the tank. This is why I asked if it even has a block or if it does- does it have a small hole in the center of it. I guess I will give it a try and see. I would just drive the car to run the gas out but that's not an option.

You don't have to "jump" the pump. If the regulator does'nt see any back presure from the rail the pump will run indefinely with just the key on.

Ohhhh ok. Well thank you bud. You have to jump the relay if you are draining it at the fuel filter is what I read- my mistake. I appreciate the help. Boy it would be nice to have a drain plug on the gas tank! I have a extra capacity trans pan with a drain on it and it sure makes things easy.

You're not wrong persay, that will work, it's just away around turning the key on.

I just make sure everything is turned off, like the heater fan, and radio.

It will take some time to drain, but if your battery is not weak you should be okay using the ignition switch.

I've heard of folks making some sort of rig that screws onto schreder(sp) valve and pumping out from there as well.

I've personally pulled the presure line from the fuel rail and pumped out from there myself.

However that was a different GM that did'nt have the pain in the ass clip-in style line fittings the 4th gen f-body does.

There's a line tool that makes it much easier if you have one or have access to one.

If not, the fuel line can be a pain to seperate from the rail.

Yes I read about a guy who uses a fuel pressure gauge that has a hose on it for taking fuel samples. He connected it to the shreder(sp?) valve like normal and used a zip tie to push in the button for fuel samples. He then extended the fuel sample hose down into a large gas can. After starting the car he zip tied the fuel sample button and after about 15 minutes or so the car runs out of gas.

I guess I will decide which way to go this weekend.......... Thanks again

Ok- I forgot that I bought the shop manuals for a 98 camaro/z28. So I looked up how to replace the fuel pump to see if it suggested a way to drain the tank. Sure enough it says to drain the tank by using a hand crank pump ( I guess the dealership shops have these) through the filler neck. I will report back with my results.

Sorry to make such a big deal about draining a tank but I have some legitimate reasons why I wanted to find out as much as possible before trying otherwise I would have just went at it.
