Billet specialties street lite backspace question

Hi guys I'm planning on going with billet specialties street lites on my car in the near future 17x7 out front and 17x11 out back question is what size backspace do I need for the back I've seen 7.75 and 7.5 both used the 7.5 does stick out from the fender a little bit though which I kinda like the look of. The 7.75 wheel is a custom wheel and costs about 100 per wheel more than the 7.5. Since the 7.5 is cheaper and IMO looks a little better does anyone know if it would hit the fenders on large bumps since it sticks out or would it hit the bumpstop before that happened? And if for whatever reason it did hit the fender could I just bolt a spacer on the bumpstop to make it hit before the tire hit the fender?

If you go with a lower aspect ratio/profile in the rear, you MIGHT rub going over bumps. MIGHT.

well with 17x11 wheels im kind of limited on tire sizes. but aside from that I'm not sure i undertsnad what your saying. Your saying with a lower aspect ratio, ie a shorter tire I might rub? I think in the morning I'm going to measure the distance from the bump stop to the axle worse comes to worse couldnt I just use a spacer to put the bumpstop closer to the axle thus decreasing suspension travel and making it bottom out before the tire could hit the fender. I mean when you lower the car 7 your essentially doing the same thing its just your also adding stiffer shocks usually to help.

you will hit the fender before bottoming out the bumpstops, that's if the tire doesnt clear

Another thing is the tire you use. I don't know if this helps, but when I bought my 18" Sterns with BFG KDW2s, the rounder sidewalls didn't rub in the rear when going over bumps. When I replaced the rears with G-Force Sports, they rubbed. They were the same size(275-35-18), but the G-Forces look wider than the old KDW2s.

here are the pics im going off of. mods please do not delete the link I know its to tech but it would not allow me to save the pictures and upload them to photobucket its just for demo purposes so please leave it up. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/midwes...6k-beware.html The bump stops on my car were replaced with ones from a 3rd gen camaro because they are a hard rubber instead of soft. Coincidently the stops are also longer than the stock ones are I have about 2 3/8" of an inch between the bump stop and the axle and just a hair under 3 inches from the tire to the fender. Wouldnt that mean that the bump stop would hit the axle and bottom out before the tire ever got the chance to hit the fender?

Ya I really like they way they stick out and give the car a more aggressive stance from the side plus the best part is the 17x11 wheel only weight 18.8 lbs and the front is around 16. If worse comes to worse I'll just get the jounce spacers that came on ss cars that limited suspension travel and put them on my bumpstops so it hits there before the fender

Also that ss is lowered an inch from what he's told me and has never had an issue so I think I'll be ok and like i said if worse comes to worse I'll add the jounce spacers to the bump stops. I love the way that car sits even though I'm not going for that full drag look I just think having the tires setup like that gives the car a more aggressive stance lol

no alex, as long as your looking at the first pic in post 36 which is a white car that is the 7.5 offset the 7.75 is on the som car and puts the tire even further in

You said larger, the ones on the white car are 7.5 vs 7.75 on the som car so wouldnt that mean they have the smaller offset from the axle? Unless im confused on how backspace and offset are related

Not sure about your fitment but the car will look great with those wheels, I put 15x10's with 7.5 and 3 1/2"s on my car, 2300 bucks later in brakes they fit great

Larger offset pushes the wheel in more

OK so then no those ones have the smaller offset like I said because they stick out of the fenders more. This is the same car you said you didnt like as much because the tires stuck out ie smaller backspacing which is the same idea as a smaller offset.
