Squealing Sound
I changed both of my belts this week end and now I have an annoying squeal
that is on the passenger side. With headers its kinda hard to zero in on it.
When at idle I don't hear it, however when you rev up it gets worse. I'm thinking it is the tensioner. But which one? The Serpentine or the A/C?
Any help would be nice.
Thx.

Usually after a belt change and you get a squeal as you describe...it is a pulley. Could be the tensioner.....gotta locate it....I use a 36" piece of a old broom handle. Sum bitch is better than a stethoscope.

No...on the bolts holding the pulleys.....put the end on something stable as close to the suspected part as you can...you'll know when you find it.

Let me see if I understand correctly. Take the broom handle or large screw driver, try to touch the bolt head while it is moving, if its bad it will wobble as the broom handle/screw driver gets close to it. Right?

No, you put one ear on the end of the screwdriver and the other end of the screwdriver on the suspect piece. Noise travels thru the long object and you listen and hear which one is making the noise.

I have a phone on a 2 foot long piece of metal SOMEWHERE in this hell hole of a garage and sarge and the others are right.
I had a pully bolt come out at 85k miles on my Mountaineer 5.0 and the pully was nicking the fan. What a treat that was!

yep...redneck stethoscope. Being using them for years. Be careful though and don't get that shit in the belt and have it rip half your face off. It will work though. Since you say it does it on rev the first thing I would listen to is that tensioner while someone rev'd it up.

i recently had the same issue.. replaced the belt, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, then the whole tensions assembly.. still had a squeek.. ordered a goodyear gator back belt and it hasnt made a noise sense... may not be the problem with yours, but it worked for mine

Found the problem, both tensioners where bad. No wonder it was hard to locate. Both are changed and no more squeaks. Thx for the help.
