Question on LS1 heads
I have a pair of LS1 heads that I need to sell. Where would I find the serial number and the year? What would they be worth? Thanks for your help.

You should ask what year the heads are in the internal section, the price in the for sale section.
Look at the 3 digit # on the top front of your heads and that will tell you the year
#'s to look for
806 97-98
853 99-00
241 01-04

Mine had 241's on a 2000 Trans Am WS6 but I changed them to 243's.

Black- 2000 WS6 6spd Hooker LT
My car was made 4/00, it's a 2000 and also has the 241 heads. Must've been a mid year production change. Does anyone know what the difference was between the 241 vs. 853? And th 243's are better than all those others, talking about stock heads.
I also wonder if GM went to the *slightly smaller* cam the '01 and up F-bodies had, when they put the 241 heads on the late '00 models. Maybe not tho, since the LS6 intake wasn't put on until '01-'02, and as we all know it had no EGR provision.Last edited by Too Fast; 05-19-2010 at 03:49 AM.

White- 1998 FireBird Formula
not to jack the thread or anything but i am getting ready to swap my entire engine harness, the car is a 98 formula. When i bought the car i was told the motor was previsously swapped with a motor out of another 98 trans am, but the casting number on my heads are 853... If the 853's only came on 99-00 ls1's, where can i look on the block to see what year it is from?
If i just bought another 98 engine harness and my motor is not actually a 98 i'm gonna be pissed!! haha...

LS1 heads
I have the 806 heads. I bought them off of ebay about six years ago for a 350 I have. I wanted to improve the engine with high performance heads and other upgrades. A friend of mine said these heads would work, but after I bought them I realized they didnt work. They were put back on a shelf in the garage and forgotten about until a few weeks ago cleaning out the garage. I dont need them but not sure how much to ask for them.

Im new as well. Please excuse my ignorance but I know nothing about engine mechanics. I dont know how to tell if they are good or bad. They look to be in great condition and I know they havent been used for six or seven years. They have been stored in a box wrapped in paper and havent been touched since I bought them.

Where that thinking came from was the different casting process the 241's used over the previous years.
Starting with the 241's, they were cast in 2 different plants with 2 different processes. They used a sand casting at one plant that produced smoother walls and transitions, and these 241's are said to flow a tad better.
They are identified from other 241's by a particular triangular marking near the spark plugs that are made during the casting process. Some have them, and some don't.
So technically speaking, there are 241's floating around that are supposed to be better than other 241's, if you follow that.
