WTF??? shift knob wont come off.

OK my shift knob wont come off it just keeps turning and turning, anybody know what is wrong with it? i spent a good 10 min tryin to get it off, anybody else have this problem? oh yea and it looks to be the stock round leather knob. its an m6

Just pull up as you spin it. It has a ton of threads, so keep spinning, and pulling, and it should pop off. They are on there pretty good though. Also look for a retainer or snap ring around the base.

Maybe the leather is spinning on the knob? My 98 does this.

grip it really hard and keep pulling and tugging until it pops off.

Mine was doing this at one point. I simply took an old dish towel wrapped it around the shift knob as to keep from scarring it and then used a large pair of channel locks to grip it and get it turning.

yes it is the leather that is spinning. i need to get a big set of plier or channel locks like u said to get it off! thanks for the info guys
