question for everyone money or love?

Alright here is the deal been with this chick for a few months and having some problems with her. I was going to just move on and find someone else, untill last night.

I found out that she has a trust fund set up for her that she will get when she graduates from college, either with a Associates or Bachlor. now that fund is upwards of $250,000. my question is what would you do? stay with her? or leave and find someone else? I have made my decision and am going to try and work things out with her.

Note; michelle has a trust fund she was left from her aunt some years back. Don't konw the number, somewhere between 5000 and 1,000,000 dollars. We don't talk about b/c after it was given to her, she used a bit to pay off school, then put the rest into her niece's name. Why? A selfless act to ensure her broken-home neice will have something to fall back on if/when she leaves and goes to college. She's only 8 now and doesn't even know it exists...imagine that graduation gift!

Yes, it irritates the fuck out of me that we could have probably paid off our house/cars/anything with this cash-but it's her money and I have no say as to how she chooses to use it or who she gives it too.

My mother taught me at a very young age that it is just as easy to fall in love with a rich woman as it is to fall in love with a poor woman.

That said, 250k is not enough money to qualify someone as rich. I’d dump her if the money is the only thing that is keeping you interested. If we were talking about 250 mil, that would be another story. . .

Don't get me wrong, if someone wanted to hand me 250k I'd take it in a heartbeat.

But the simplest definition of “rich” I like to use is when your money works for you and not the other way around. Once you have enough to live off the interest from low risk investments then I'd say someone is rich. Even if all 250k was in cd's or other low risk investments it is going to yield less than 25k return which after taxes would be difficult to live on.

You would still have to work to maintain anything you bought with the money because once it is gone it is gone.

Money can help being happy (even just by getting rid off the stress from debt and providing security) but money alone can not guarantee happiness. If you're in a miserable relationship, money won't change that.

What happened to women wanting men that worked hard and were good to their famillies but didn't have alot of cash. I don't mean you but alot of women will dump a "good" guy for one that can buy her some nice shit. My wife and I have been together since we were 17/19. She always believed in me and saw me for the man I was trying to be. We worked hard in our careers and our relationship and today, we have alot of nice stuff and 2 great kids. We started with nothing and at the bottom of our career fields. The decent guys often get overlooked.

Amibition is a very attractive quality, i had to break up with a guy because i asked him what he wanted to do with his life, and he said "win the lottery" and he was dead ass serious. I cant take that, i go to work everyday planning on going back to college, to be able to teach someday.. and make good money. i want someone who is looking to better themselves, on thier own and not by someone else's money. I dont look at money at all when dating a guy, if hes not making alot it doesnt bother me, but if hes ok with the minimum pay.. and isnt willing to work for something..thats a huge problem. Im going to find success with or without a man, so money isnt an issue when im dating someone.

Erm, did I miss something. This thread was started by a guy asking if he should stay with a chick to milk her dry. money can buy happiness with financial security.. however money also causes fights and breaks ups

if you two already have BS problems, those problems will continue no matter how much money is involved. take your loss and move on. or if you feel you are getting along better and it will stay better then stay with her. Just dont put to much into "her potential/ relationship potential" and dont put alot into being optimistic that it will get better.

Once the problems are seeded they are there to stay, why avoid the invetible.

I guess I gave the wrong title to the thread, I deffinately like the chick a lot and the reason were having problems is because she is going through a really tough time. And it was just starting to eat at me a ton. this is just more like a bonus, I would never enter into a relationship with someone that I dont think is an asset to me. One thing I know for sure is if you don't love this girl then you're wasting valuable time that you could be spending looking for one that you do love. More to life than money. I've been poor, had money, and all points in between. I can tell you that my wife and kids make me happy enough to not give much of a shit about money. As long as the bills are getting paid and food is on the table we're good to go. The important stuff is how we are as a family. That's what means something. I quit a job making $55-$60k last year to stay home with my kids. That's how much money means to me. My kids and family are way more important to me.
