Nice! Thinking about a similar color for our '67 Cutlass.
It was a factory color in 1970. Shadow Gray #17. This car was repainted in 1995 bc/cc BASF. I can get you the color # if you want.
Since it is a factory GM color, that might not be a bad idea. Thanks!
Can I start in here even if there is no real muscle in it yet? 1962 Buick Skylark, 2 door sedan, white w/ blue interior, w/ an all aluminum V8 215 w/ a AFB4 barrel and an auto trans of some sort! ALL STOCK but the mag wheels.
No pics till I get the front end fixed, (right front wheels crooked) and the car needs to be washed, brakes working and new battery.............. then I can feel okay about pics!
Also 1998 S-10 currently w/ a V6 but getting the LQ9 w/ 4l60E soon I hope- engine is still on the stand waiting it's turn!, but I got the LS1 Camaro 12" disc's/ calipers ready to put on this weekend!
Raymond from SoCal.
I have a thing for old Buicks... looking forward to pics!
Sure. The title says "Classics check in", not classic muscle. Anyway, it's cool with the all aluminum Buick V8 still intact. Did you know that engine was the basic construction for Range Rover V8 engines, up to (I think) the 4.0. They may have make it into the 4.6l, but I know that it was the original Buick V8 from the early 60s. Go ahead, doubters, check and see what oil filter fits these engines....
1968 camaro ,ls1 4l65e trans ,rotisiried, doig completion as we speak, tried street walkin for the extra $$$ but no lady takers, damnit man
aww man sweet 55,,soon as im done building my wifes 68 rs ls1 ,4l65e ,,thats my next project, allready have a sweet 572 crate motor with 871 blower in awatint the 55

^^^very nice. I always love seeing modern rubber on vintage cars, instead of the reproduction skinny stuff they used to wear.
Not me, guess I'm the opposite, prefer more of a stock look on most of my stuff.
Looks good to me.......
http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...1/P5110001.jpg
That's a good looking Z.
Chris and Jones very nice! I dont car which tires they have as long as they look good. However I bet those skinny tires take forever to get traction. Gosh both of those cars look good!
Thanks for the complements guys! It still doesn't hook up well with the bigger rubber under it. It still spins the first 3 gears.
Not really, I have the front sway bar loose (it still has to be hooked up) and I run an old set of oil filled shocks up front. The back suspension is completely stock 1970 issue (no traction devices allowed). Pinion angle is tweaked. The rest is just practice. My suspension isn't nearly as trick as some of the cars in the class, it just works good as is.
Here is a good shot showing how good she just squats and goes, and this is about half track, well past the 330 foot mark. This was a heads up race against a procharged LT1 bird. Imagine his surprise when a bone stock 70 formy put it on him  He had to find me in the pits after this little grudge match :D
http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...s1/cars001.jpg
That is a great shot, FBJ!
Yeah I thought so too, although I can't take credit as I didn't take it (obviously I'm in the car ). Evidently I had some fans in the crowd, and a bystander took that shot (got alot of attention in the pits that day after making some passes) and he knew a friend of a friend. Eventually 3-4 weeks later a buddy of mine came up to me and gave me the pic (little 3x5 glossy).
I had my wife scan it so I could post. Unfortunately all my race pics are on glossys as we didn't own digital camera at that time.
Just picked this up 2 weeks ago.
1967 Camaro, originally a six banger and powerglide. Now a 327 and a Powerglide until yesterday when I swapped in a Turbo 350 and stall converter, lol. A lot of the resto work is already done. It mainly just needs body and paint, the most expensive of course, lol. I am very seriously considering leaving it as it is for the time being, since I get thumbs up or people asking about it everytime I drive it. It looks like a car you'd see driving around everyday back in the 70's.
Interior is redone. New floorpans and rear shock towers. New multi-leaf springs shackles and perches in the rear. New (and too tall) coils in the front. New tierods, ends, ball joints, idler arm/pitman arm and shocks all around. I need to cut the front springs, or get some that are lower. It has power steering, but drum brakes all around, so disc conversion on the front is one of the first planned mods. The 327 runs very well, much better now with the Turbo 350 and stall. It has an old school Holley 450cfm "Economaster", lol. Aluminum intake, longtube headers and a stainless Flowmaster crossflow 2 into 2 exhaust.
I'd LOVE to do an LS1 conversion to this car, but ironically my place of employment announced they were closing the day after I bought it, so for now and the immediate future...this is LOW BUDGET resto for sure. It came with 14" steel wheels and 195/75 whitewall tires, but the Draglites went on the 2nd day I owned it, lol...for now, no show car, no trailer queen, just a very solid, great start of a project car...
The full size pics below, most are as it sits today...the 3rd one is as I bought it 2 weeks ago...no idea why color looks totally different, but the present pics are the color...it is called Nantucket Blue.
Welcome to the classics! Great choice of a car. 1st gens are always a good investment with return on your money. Not to mention just cool to drive around and enjoy. Looks like a much better start than most I see forsale. At least it's drivable as is so you get instant enjoyment. I think what I like most is that you mention it needs paint and body work. I'd be tempted to enjoy it as is so you don't have to worry about dings and scratches. Alot less stressfull that way ;)
Sorry to hear about the job. Guess the good news is the economy is supposed to be looking up if you believe what you hear.
Exactly...paint it and worry about it everywhere i go...nah no hurry for that...lol. As for the job...we have had 5 owners in last 10 years and this is 2nd one to go bankrupt so i am thinking positive...still lol
Yeah and I think that comes with age. I like nice paint as much as the next guy, but I find those cars are staying in the garage more often, I'd rather drive the cars that need a little work. I actually find that I enjoy myself more and I'm not stressed as much. I'm actually more attracted to cars that are considered 20-30 footers with some patina.
You'll have some fun with that one. Fun to tinker and see how fast you can make that one go ;)
Thanks. Wife is bugging me to put the new rear spoiler on but i also like it as is.
It would look good with the rear spoiler too ;)
Yep, rear spoilers look good on those. The clean look without is also nice. What I like the most is you have a wife encouraging you to work on it :D
Yeah, indeed. I'd like to swap my Super Turbine 300 (Pontiac Powerglide) out of my '68 Le Mans convertible for a turbo 350. And a stall. That would wake up my .030 over Pontiac 400, even with the anemic 2.56 rear gear.
So, Bob, was it a huge difference when you did the transmission swap, just like you thought? No more 85 MPH in low gear before the shift to drive?
Good enough to break my speedometer cable in 2 days, LMAO!
HUGE difference in overall drive-ability and fun factor. Wife hates the fact it will roast the tire, yes tire, as in ONE of them, LOL. I also swapped out the old Holley Economaster 450 for a newer Edelbrock 600, which also made a noticeable difference. I really need a shifter now so I don't kill myself or the car clicking forward too many notches with this POS Hurst Indymatic shifter it came with. The neighbor who sold me the Turbo 350 and stall converter (for $150) says he knows he has the B&M shifter for it somewhere...just needs to find it. I was able to sell the PG tranny for $100, so I am into the swap so far for only 50 bucks. :bravo:
I have always liked Draglites, but think the car would look better with how I have planned it to look, That is, with Rally wheels painted body color, and the flat center caps. I picked up 4 rally wheels yesterday for $60 and a guy locally has a new set of flat caps with spinners, for 75. I think that will look sweet...
I also went ahead and bolted the spoiler on....along with a quickie spray can paint job and an old "I love my Hooker headers" sticker, LOL...
Well, got the Rally wheels painted and on today. Jury's still out on whether they'll stay as is or not. I'm not out a lot of cash for these...
I bought the Rally wheels for $60 (two 15x7, two 14x6)
Put two of the 195/75-14's on the fronts, that came off of the stock steel wheels, so that was no extra money.
Found the two rear 245/60-15 rears locally for $25 and put them on the 15x7's.
Ended up getting the flat spinner caps for $60 and 2 cans of Duplicolor paint for $15
$160 for a full extra set of wheels and tires...I figured I could not go wrong.
Attachment 24213
Painted the rally wheels silver, cut a coil out of the front springs and did a front disc brake conversion....I also picked up some Weld ProStars with skinnies and 275/60's on the rear ones...they'll go on sooner or later...LOL

Hope you're taking pictures. It's nice to look back after it's all done. Scrapbook style :p
Just ths ones that are here and on my Fquick page...sadly after owning almost a hundred cars I only have pictures of about a half dozen of them :-(
That is what I'm talking about. I wish I had taken far more pictures of my Chevelles (no digital at the time, all film prints). Most of the pictures I did have, got destroyed during the Northridge earthquake. We had just moved and most things were still in boxes and scattered when my fish tanks (and everything else) came crashing down and flooded the carpeting and ruined a lot of things.
I now have a ton of pictures of my Camaro. And back ups. That will never happen again ;)
Take lots of pictures :D
Ok...
I have a 1967 red Chevelle concours woody wagon with over 25 original options , 327 pg that I replaced with a 700r4 and a lot of other changes. I won my class at Chevellabration in 2012 I will post pics when I figure how.
Can't believe I never saw this thread before. Subscribed to look at some previous pages in my down time. So far, some great works of art in here.
I went to photobucket filled out the info and it had an arrow that said slide to prove you are human well I tried and tried and it would not move so I must not be human!
I already had an account from years ago but as to how to tell you to see photos my user name is Ben67zl1 if there is something else I need to do tell me I uploaded 30 pics of wagon Ben 1967 concours wagon
When you click on the photo in Photobucket, you will see codes off to the right-hand side. One of those codes will read "IMG".
Copy and paste that code into the reply box here on this forum and when you post, the picture will show in the thread.
Yep :yup: Copy and paste the IMG code. You can only post them one at a time. Or, a link to your album if it's not private :)
http://621.photobucket well that is what the img said had to type itcourse that is one of the rack . Well I brought a different image, code is the same on Team Chevelle we just upload from our computer, resize so you can upload a bunch Ben
it did not post img name I need help cause it isn't private but the link bit isn't working for me
Looks like not all of the IMG code is there. If you mouse over a pic, an icon that looks a bit like a gear will appear in the top right corner. Click on that and a drop down menu will appear. Select "Get media links" and another menu will appear. At the bottom will be the [IMG] code. Left click on that and it should say "Copied". Then, in your post box on here, right click wherever you want the picture to appear and select "Paste". You'll see the line of code appear and then when you post the reply the pic should appear.

:cool2: That thing is sweet!
Agreed! I haven't seen one of those is a very long time.
I agree also! That is a sweet automobile!
Attachment 24924Attachment 24925Attachment 24926Attachment 24927 Thought I would throw in some pics of the Elcamino I sold this past summer , sign is simpler than typing it all out. Semper Fi ! Ben
Why did you sell it?
I did not need two and I already have 2 pickups but I did not have a trip vehicle where me and couple buddies could hop in and go to Carlyle or wherever. I saw the wagon and its different and my favorite year Chevelle and RED so I bought it and sold the elcamino to a bud who has wanted it for years
Well, at least you have what you need and can make good use of and the Elcamino went to a good home :)
New member, Just starting a LS1 5.3 build to put in my 64 nova. Any suggestions on were to start?
Do you already have the 5.3?
Try to get the ecm and engine harness together with it.
Things to consider -
Wire harness - if you don't get one with the block there are options but they cost $$$ Between $600-$900.
Oil pan clearance
Engine mounts - there are kits that convert classic SBC mounts to LS blocks.
Yr of the 5.3 - 04 seems to be the conversion yr, by that I mean gm went from 24x to 58x reluctor wheels. That's why I said to try to get the ecm with the engine. You can tell what the reluctor wheel is by the color of the crank sensor. Black = 24x, grey = 58x. You can get a reluctor wheel from summit and have a machine shop swap out, far cheaper then the 24x-58x convertor box that is sold.
Intake - you can keep the current intake design with fuel injection or go with a carb design manifold for a more classic look, hell they make carb design with fuel injection. Each has its pro's and cons.
How old is the block? While it's out a refreshing of the oil pump, lifters, timing chain and replace gaskets are encouraged to do. Easy to get to while on a stand vs in the car. Have the block and heads looked over by a machine shop to make sure the block and internals are in good condition. Bearings may need to be replaced.
DOD - need to decide if you want to keep it or get rid of if your block has it. Tuning and some parts swap are required = added costs.
It should fit well in the engine bay. Transmission and drive shaft will also need to be address as well. There are several adapter plates and bell housings just about for any transmission engine combo.
^^ This. I was going to mention the DOD as well. LS swaps are super common anymore so all the engineering has been done. There are a couple of good LS Swap books on the market and you can pick them up through Amazon.
Welcome to the site! :)
I always thought these were nice. https://i.imgur.com/5no7jTg.jpg 1968- 442
Me too :D
It's been awhile since I've been on here, but I thought I'd come share what I've been up to. A few friends and I have been running a 5.3 swapped '85 z28 in 24 hours of lemons, we've ran 3 races so far and finally finished our first one at the end of June. That finish was after losing 3rd gear in our T5 and driving the last hour and a half of the race in 4th only. I'm going to start a whole build thread but figured I start here until then. And before anyone asks, that's a vinyl wrap, it's still a $500 pile of 3rd gen in a pretty wrapper lol
Attachment 26992
Haha :haha: How much was the vinyl wrap? :p
Welcome back. Looking forward to your build thread!
What did you place at?
Looks like a solid 3rd Gen
Wrap was free, buddy of mine that is on the race team worked at the place that wrapped it, talked them into sponsoring it so him and his buddies at work could get "training" on the new material they where using haha. It's good it was free because we've already ruined it
Attachment 26993
This is what we started with lol
