First off, Pasta doesn't stay with you long, Nor does it really fill you up fast compared to a high protein meal. And your metab has nothing to do with HOW MUCH food you can eat in one sitting
yes it does because ill it alot, not take a shit and then be starving 45 minz later
a high metabolism is being able to eat large amounts of food and not gaining a pound because of it, when i was 18-19, i could probably eat 8 square meals a day...and i weighed 160....that is an example of high metabolism..just like the other guy who posted up his pasta meal
double as in.. .if your gaining five pounds on bench/month... you will gain around 8.... its proven.. i am a HHP excercise science major.. minor in nutrition and dieting... personal trainer is profession.. doubt it or not.. its proven.. doing bench to increase your bench max is actually not the best thing to do... YES you absolutely should do bench.. but the other things combined help more.. not going into too deep detail.. i could break everything down.. but it would 10 pages.. haha..... but like i said.. MAXING IS TERRIBLE FOR YOU!!! its pure bragging rights.. nothing else.. light weight more times.. or medium weight three less times than your max.. best for you...
check previous post... around page 7??? i can back it up.. ive done the weight... and NO offense.. but chances are have gained more by using my workout.. than any other person on here.... again check posts...
or just ask derrinx.. sent him detailed.... everything.. haha... he will vouch i know what im talking about...
not so much age as to what you do/eat/habits during the day.. yes age plays a role.. but if you stay fit.. metabolism stays going....
if you want to slow down your metabolism.. dont eat breakfast.. eating breakfast is a MUST for losing weight because it jump starts your metabolism in the morning.. eat your PBJs RIGHT before bed.. then wait 3-4 hours when you get up... EAT WHITE... rice.. pasta.. bread...etc...
no cokes.. thats bad weight... gain the weight the correct way...
My gym is pretty cool. It's part of campus, and its huge. Great equipment, and lots of it so you don't have to wait for people.
But I can't stand the fucking music.
Two notable ones I remember were "Do the hustle" and "its raining men". Seriously, it was like it was playing a "worst music from 30 years ago" CD or something. Half the guys just burst out laughing in the middle of lifting when "raining men" came on. Its ridiculous. I really need to put music on the ipod my girlfriend got me :brick:
i eat two peanut butter sandwhichs before bed as well haha, i eat em because of the high protein content for my body to obsorb throughout the night
protein and carbs.. for a short answer.. and your body does not abdorb stuff as much while you sleep therefore you gain more weight if you eat right before you go to bed.. when dieting you NEVER eat before you go to bed... but when gaining weight it is a must.. if you trying to gain... eat two PBJs before bed.. and try to eat a big thing of peanut butter from the store at least once a week... just by itself... if you get tired of PBJS... try peanut butter banana also... or use your imagination.. if you want more detail just ask im on my way to work..

hahaha sweet...my favorite thread... i really need to get backto the gym
I can max 210 pounds . Im 5'8'' and weigh in at 173.
Way back in high school I was obsessed with benching, I would work out 3-4 times a day almost every day and wanted to reach 300 before school ended. I could max 260 at my strongest, it used to freak people out because I only weighed 135lbs. Fucked up my shoulder and havne't worked out since.
5'9 170 benched 260 in january.
6'2, 192 lbs, 9.7% body fat and my one rep max is 280.
6'3 180 pounds, bench 265 max with freeweight. Sets of 10 with 205 freeweight.
the most i did when i was lifting alot was 300. i was starting to get too big for my taste (weight lifters gut and all that) so i swithed from heavy lifting to more cardio. leaned from 190 to 165. lost some strengh but can still push 250-260. i'm where i wanna be, for now.
6'1" 280 I can bench 465 one rep max... I play defensive line, and we're all about getting stronger at my school. My goal before the end of summer is an even 500, but it's easier said then done.
5`5`` 145 benched 250
my buddy 5`6``135 benched 300 no juice or ANY THING
Well guys, I broke 300 pounds today on the smith. And I did 8 reps with it, Not as bad as I thought...
I weighed in today at 176, I weighed 149 last october. It takes a long time for lean muscle weight gain.
I don't just bench press, But lately I've been trying to build my chest more and as a result have been on the bench
I don't take any supps at all if that makes any difference
5'9" 127lbs
Saw this thread, figured wtf get on the bench press at the gym before my cardio workout. 135. YIKES, maybe I should start lifting. Although I bet I can beat any of you guys at a pull-up contest.
Neither do (or did) I.
300 on a smith machine isnt the same free weight. Even doing 285 12 times.
Its just one of those things. If you were a powerlifter, that bench number wont mean much. Shit, any other weight lifter that asked you your max will say that bench number doesnt count.
A smith machine is on par with doing a squat only partially the way down. It doesnt count.
Smith Machines are bad all around anyway cuz of the unnatural plane of movement it forces your body to move through.
Man i feel week. Im 6;5 and i weigh 165lbs.. i maxed out at 135. I just started lifting though like a month ago.. my goal is to get 315 within a year. idk if its a very realistic goal but i figure if i lift alot and start putting on more weight i could do it.
The bar.
I'm too old to max now at the age of 58 but my best was 300 when I was 42 years old. Kevin, my youngest son, benches 345 with reps of 6. The football trainer won't let them max at this time. He is doing 5 sets of 345 x 6. His legs are a little stronger. Right now he's doing 810 x 20 reps of leg presses but he thinks he can do over a thousand. Kevin is a offensive lineman for UVA at Wise.
im a lil guy... 5'7'' at 130lb, but i max at 205lb...
soooo not weighing much, i dont mind benching 75 more than i weigh
pullup contest? aight, get we gotta break out the video cameras for this one lol. smkn_ta, how many u estimatin?
i can do more than everyone.
lol no i was just messing with the guy cause he said he can only bench 135. and i was just kidding about doing more than everyone. i was in a weird mood last night i guess?? btw i can only get up 265
I was lifting about threeto four times a week about four years ago and was doing 10 sets of 10 with 315. I am 6'3" and 300 lbs.
I'm 5'9" 170lbs
back in high school during football and baseball season I was benching 215 and maxed at 250. I only workout about 1-2 times a week now so I just throw up 185, 8 reps x 3
I weigh about 205 max bench is about 300
I wanna see video of Atcharming benching 205, if he can actually do it props to him. But he jus looks WAY too skinny to be putting up that kind of weight.
on here you've posted a few, you get the general idea that you are a pretty skinny dude. Anythings possible, but i'm quite a bit bigger then you and have been lifting a pretty long time, and only have maxed about 20 pounds more. The guys at my gym that are your size are benching 125 lbs or so, like I said anythings possible. But this is infact ls1.com where everything defies the laws of physics, logic, and reasoning lol
If you do infact bench that even 2 good reps, you are a strong lil bastard for your size.
On a good day....55 pounds.
well... like i said, that was my MAX lol. i mean, it was a good day, i took some creatine and one of those 5 hour energy shots and felt like i could lift a bus. i went down to my chest an up, and down, and i couldnt get it back up. but whatev... yea i am a pretty skinny dude, but i can out-eat anyone i know, and i have been unemployed for a while now, so when im not out partying i basically just sit at home, eat while in postin on ls1, and work out constantly
well my bar either weighs 25 or 35lb, so its either 205 or 195.
i guess i am just one of those rock hard skinny guys
I can do 26 with my hands facing straight. Man, I got a 29 inch waist on a good day. I have to be like 7% body fat. I don't weight lift, but besides running a lot at the gym, I do a lot of pull ups at home on our clothes line poles. I used to have a sweet 30 foot rope I'd climb using arms only but we cut down the tree =( Now if only I had a salmon ladder like the one from ninja warrior.
was just a work out one of my friends who was a trainer turned me on to. heavy weight lots of reps to help me build and tone cause my metabilism sucks. but when we benched we would go to the neck instead of the chest. helps increase bench strength greatly. for me any ways. just make sure you have a good spotter.,.
just because someone has lifted for 5 years longer than someone, takes supplements, and works out every day doesnt mean they can bench jack squat, you should remember that.. i know plenty of guys that i lift with that are much smaller than me and do the same reps i do.. him doing that much weight to me is not suprising or hard to believe at all..
i am going to school to be a personal trainer.. i have never heard of this method... what else does your work out consist of.. sorry for the questions, but im curious..
youd have to be one strong SOB to do that kind of weight that many times and not be greatly putting strain on your muscles.. i would think it wouldnt help at all, only hurt.. since this is coming from a trainer i wonder though... is he certified?
Most personal trainers are idiots. Most of those idiots arent even certified, but some of those idiots ARE certified.
You dont have to go to school to be a CPT. I went through NASM.org.
Also, going through a certification wont help provide knowledge on how to bench press more. In fact, they wont tell you shit about how to increase Max lifts. Most of your future clients arent going to be even interested in any of that shit. Theyll majorally be deconditioned and thrive for a healthier way to live.
As far as that method goes, its just another way to break past a plateau. Change of grip, volume, exercise selection, etc. Theyre just tools.
wow... thank you....
i was just curious to wether he considered himself a personal trainer or he was certified at the least or went to school...
not ALL personal trainers are idiots... and true, while most people you deal with dont give a lying shit wether they bench 200 plus, or they havnt done that in 40 years, to be a thourough trainer you have to know all ends and outs..
tools.....? be a little bit easier on people man.. dang
 I meant the parameters for setting up a max lift program are tools.
If shes smart, she will agree.
If shes dumb, she will get mad.
:)
I was asking a trainer a year or so ago why she made her client have an "arm day." She said because needed one. I breezed over her client's program and pointed out where her arms are already being used. She looked puzzled. I said to her "in the compound movements, her arms are being exercised....." She looked puzzled again, but said "what are compounds?"
:wtcslap:
Sounds like you are pretty slender like me. I did that one day at a competition in basic training, with no prior pull ups for practice or to work on pull ups if you know what i mean...i really doubt i can do that many now. I bet i could get 20. i got a camera so...lets start the competition haha
i weigh 175 and bench 225 and aswell i do 185 as reps i can do 225 2 times
i weigh 155 and put up 255 on the smith machine, and i can do 215 on the freeweights rep wise, i don't know about my max, i ended up pulling a muscle in my back.........and i really don't know why my back of all things? I think it is because i arched it.................smith machine is way easier...........I've put up 225 a while back on free weights, but i was working out on deployment and all we had was a smith machine.
Freeweights in high school maxed at 225. A year after I started lifting with a friend and maxed at 245, but I haven't benched since :(
I played football in high school and we were only allowed to max once a month. Kind of like a benchmark to see how we were coming along...I'm pretty weak compared to most people in that aspect. Benching was always compared to how well you could push someone around/ get seperation, which is only half of the equation, seeing as I could push through an offensive lineman that could bench 325.....Leverage; How weak people seem strong...lol
I'm 6' even and when these were measured I weighed about 205...Now, I don't even wanna go there lol
I'm 6'6", 320 lbs. and I bench 435lbs.
160 biotch
This is a perfect example of how much of a difference is possible.
Shit Machines are only good for a pull up bar, hanging your towel, and the occasional hise shrug.
You pulled something in your back cuz..well, it could be an array of reasons. Your posterior chain serves as the brakes on a lift such as a bench press. Without it, you would drop that shit directly onto your chest.
When you start thinking about movements vs. body parts, the whole idea of "full body workout" becomes clear.
Yeah youll find that on a Smith machine you can put up a good amount more.. I do box squats on one cus my gym doesnt have a real squat rack. When i use the machine, i can squat 405 4 times. You think i can do that without the machine? HELL NO, im 185 lbs and 6'3. Realistically i could do 315 4 times. Its a terrible machine, but if its all you got then at least your lifting, you just have to adjust when switching to free weights.
I've only ever used a smith machine once, for squats when a real squat rack wasn't available. I didn't like it, it felt uncomfortable and weird... maybe I was using it wrong :chuckles:
Upped it today.
63 pounds.
The 16 ounce crown and coke curls seem to be a regular rep though.
bump just for derrinx
