650.00 tickets aren't unheard of, specifically on a car with miles that isn't maintained. The parts are expensive and most shops these days have a pretty high labor rate. The hyundai shop I was last at had a 92.00 dollar an hour diagnostic charge. It sounds expensive to people, but cars are expensive. Its 2008 and you have to account for inflation. It sucks because the dealers make all that money on the labor and parts and only give the techs a fraction of that money. Thefore the techs wanna sell as much easy maintenance work as they can just to make a living, and then the customer always feels like they are getting screwed. Its real simple, dont like the prices to have your car worked on, do it yourself. But I'd wager that about 85-90 percent of the customers i've ever had can't use a hammer and a screwdriver. Nevermind actually diag anything.
