i use my feet...
Slow down???
Yea I dont feel like going back to read everything but I just put it in neutral and roll applying brakes gently.
what are these "brakes" you speak of?
brakes 99.9% of the time, because replacing clutches is alot harder and more expensive than replacing brake pads :)
i just throw from 6th to 1st and the car slows down very quickly.
j/k nobody ever do that.
the best is to use your brakes. SAVE GAS and SAVE CLUTCH!
I use a combination. If I have to stop quickly, of course, I just use the brakes. If I see a red light ahead I will press the brakes lightly and downshift to the next lowest gear (so when it shifts into the next gear so its around 2600-3000 rpm. I keep pressing the brakes as I go from 5-4-3, then by this time, I am going slow enough, I just coast and just use the brake, keeping the car in neutral.
I always wondered is it harmful to the transmission if I just pull the car out of gear without pressing the clutch. Some gears like 4th, it pops right out, but 3rd and 5th, you really need to force it out.
I voted brakes, but tend to use both (Usually downshift on Highway). My biggest reason for brakes over engine is rolling up on lights I would never get it to slow down fast enough and have no ability to heel/toe brake since my fat feet get in the way.
:drivin:
Brakes in both my Honda and Camaro (obviously).
need a both option in the poll...............
i use my teeth... i bite the road and it stop me...
isn't it always best to put it in neutral and and use the brakes?
I use my brakes while in neutral for coming to a stop. I will only use the gears to help me slow down more if it REALLY need to to be able to stop in time for whatever reason, and it happens sometimes.
Back when i had a stick, I usually just popped it in neautral and coasted to a stop. But when i was feelin aggressive, i heel/toed it.
the way i look at it is that brakes are a lot cheaper than a clutch, and when u use your clutch to slow down you are actually using your engine, rear end, tranny, etc... so you're actually putting more stress on all these components rather than just your brakes
both.
i use friction and gravity...
If you're driving a manual, performance car, you always stay in the right gear for maximum torque if it's needed. So, you both brake and shift when slowing.
damn this is an old thread
Brakes are cheap and easy, clutches are not. But when I autocross on some curvy roads, I engine break to keep it in the power band. Other then that, USE THE BRAKES PEOPLE, thats what they were made for, not the clutch.
welcome to last year thread

TTT lmao, did i mention i use my brakes to slow down?
well, on a related topic, I engine brake my car, and its an auto.
like while cruising through neighborhoods, I keep it in "2" and I let it engine brake. some times on short streets I do it in 1st.
any other time, I use brakes
its really bad for it? dang. It will be a bit before I get my stage 3 rebuild.......I better quit.
sounds cooler with the clutch.
little bit of both i guess. Double clutch into 4th. and double into third... break shift into 2nd at about 20-mph. and stop with the breaks... never thought it was bad? Im open to suggestions! i figure this would be easer on the clutch matching the revs on a down shift, never thought i was being to hard on the transmission?
