Hey guys, I have to replace the fuel pump in my car (2000 T/A) and I really DON'T want to pull the tank. Has anyone tried making an access panel? If so, where? (exactly) I know in the hatch area.

there is a good write up on this on ls1tech.com search their formums for it. U can also buy trapt doors on ebay for about 30 bks and it comes with instructions. Personally, I would just remove the tank. I know its a big job, but at least u dont have to start hacking your bird.
Ditto on the anti hack work. Cutting the metal is a good way to introduce rust.
ya shit, your probably right. It will be a pain but I guess it will be right when it's done.
What's everyone using for a good pump. GM wants :ar: $625.00
Most here buy the Walbro kit, not sure on cost, but I bet its probably half the price.
Go to LS1Speed.com and get the stock fuel replacement pump, I just replaced mine 3 weeks ago and I used the trunk cut method, took me 1.5 hrs and instructions are easy to read.
Where did you get the instructions to do the cut method or did it come with the pump?
I cut the access as well, I went with a racetronix kit, took a couple hrs. Heres the link I used

Alright, thanks guys, at least now I have a better idea and some different ideas.
I would pull the tank and use a racetronix kit from harris speed works. Save yourself a bunch of money and pulling the tank really isn't that hard to do. Taking the exhaust off is the biggest pain in the ass out of all of it. You have a rubber fill neck so yours is easier than my 98 which has the metal neck.
I dunno, I guess to each their own, I'd more than likely cut an access panel.
I'm probably going to cut a hole. It pays 4.2 hrs with no add time and that sounds like a pain in the ass to me. I live in Florida so rust shouldn't be an issue if I seal it back up right.
I took me only 2 hrs, I cut the hole and then i sealed it with JB weld....it worked and the total price for replacement was $170 for everything...
Good Luck
