I know alot of people have been asking which suspension is best for the 4th gens......and usually I read an answer which says "go Koni".
At nearly $850 a set are they really that much better then say the revalved bilsteins from strano?

I have an Eibach Pro Kit with KYB Monotubes, along with Addco front and rear bars, Lakewood LCA, and Lakewood Panhard rod. I am very happy with the overall performance. THe ride is compliant (I switched from Eibach Sport Line and Bilsteins), and the car more stable at high speed. It feels planted and controlled. My 60' time improved 4/10th with this set up as well. The shocks set me back $280 and springs were $260. I have only put 3000 miles on this setup, but so far the shocks aren't leaking and I am still very pleased.
i would ask strano what he thinks is better, that guy knows alot and im sure he will give you a stright up answer and not worry how much he will make off of ya
he hasn't even been selling the bilsteins anymore, at least thats what i've read
Koni's rock. Always have. If we could get Bilstein's to Revalve, I'd still do it, but we can't get them right now (or for the last year). But they have NEVER been, or were ever meant to be equal to or replacements for Koni's. All these years I've owned my Camaro (since 9/2000) it's been on Koni's.
Yeah, they aren't cheap. What worth having is? And FWIW, they actually start @ $770 a set they way I do them, but they can run up to $880 and higher with options. And think about this. What do tires cost? And they don't last nearly as long or have the effect on every aspect of driveability like the shocks do.
Is there a truly noticeable difference between the Koni's and the Tokico's?? I don't drive teh car as much as I'd like to and central NJ roads aren't exactly known for being good driving roads---potholes and traffic lights (OH JOY).
Just trying to see if they are truly worth the investment as I have a couple projects in the works now.
There is a difference, yes. If your stock stuff is trashed, the Tokico's will make a big difference for not a ton of cash. But the control, ability to tune the ride/handling, and build quality/durability/warranty support are not similar at all.
you have to tune your ride after you get new shocks?
If you have adjustable shocks you can, and should set them to what you like best. Non-adjustables you bolt on and have to settle for whatever the based valving is.
Sam,
I'm going to install your springs and Koni SA's, will I need a wheel alignment afterwards? I only have 22k miles on the car now and alignment has not a problem.
Thanks, JD
Im not Sam - But yes you will!
Any time you change the ride height the alignment will need done. You are changing the control arms angles, and lowering the steering rack, changing the angle (and basically the length) of your tie-rods.
Depends where you like. $50-60 around here for a 2 wheel (all an f-body nees), can run $100 or more.
oh ok, thanks
I've spent $100.00 last front wheel alignment.
I got my Umi bar, Konis and Strano springs from Sam, I couldnt be happier!! My alignment was$40.00, set to Sam's recommended specs.
