Hey fellas,
I was just wondering what is the fastest way to launch off the line, and from a 20 mph roll. Is it better to start in 3rd, traction control on or off...that kind of thing.I have 285/40/17 bfg kdw tires (new) and no stall or kit.

Hey fellas,
I was just wondering what is the fastest way to launch off the line, and from a 20 mph roll. Is it better to start in 3rd, traction control on or off...that kind of thing.I have 285/40/17 bfg kdw tires (new) and no stall or kit.
Launch from 3rd with TC off. 3rd engages all the clutch packs versus drive that only engages three of them....
Launching in any "range" other than OD or 4th/drive...will engage the manual clutches ...all stronger than the "sprag" clutches which are operative in drive position. In theory, shifting it manually for each gear ...using 2nd then 3rd..then drive...helps the tranny shift more positively, less slippage. IN my car (94 A4 Z28) the shifts are dang positive even in OD position, and especially the 1-2 shift...gets the tires loose if you're not on really good surface.
O yeah...definitely turn off the traction control...use your own "feel" to modulate wheelspin.
so its not excessivley hard on the trans to shift myself? Why have I gotten to age 37 and not known this? LOL im gonna do some practicing tomorrow, any techniques I should know? I KNEW I should be dusting a couple of these cars off that got me off the line....NEVER AGAINNNNNN
According to everything I have ever read, the 4L60E does NOT like manual shifting!!
along the same lines, will shifting the 700r4 manually also enguage more clutch packs than in D or OD?
I will try from 3rd and post the results lol
I think this is true for daily driving...too much busyness in the management system. For ones acceleration sprints, I believe it is less likely to invoke clutch failure using the stronger clutchpacks rather than sprag clutches.
Any furthere input is appreciated...however...I am still learning.
what i do when im rolling twenty...i drop it to 1st and go from there...takes off really fast...
I always raced my A4 from OD when I had it. It actually shifted more accurately there for some reason. If I left it in D, then it would have more of a tendency to kiss the rev limiter. Besides, in an electronically/PCM controlled transmission, why would it make a difference whether D or OD was selected???
my third gen revs to about 7k... im assuming thats not right since the redline is like 5500 haha.
idk why it does it... maybe my tach is off? is that possible?
anyways... with the 700R4, its got 1, 2, D, and OD. so since manually shifting is bad, but u get better results, and ur all saying to go from 3rd, should i go from 2? then manually shift to D when necessary?
trans says 123 and drive on my shifter, other years/models vary. Thanks for the info!
I cant tell a difference. But it sounds good no matter how I launch lol
tach CAN be wrong, the boob who put the white gauges in my car messed it up so its 1000 rpm off. Ive just been too lazy to tear it open and correct it.
