horse power help......
Just wanted to see if I could get an approximate horsepower estimate..I have a 2000 ws6 trans am ..i have SLP loud mouth exhaust, slp smmoth bellows, and slp lid with a k&n air filter. And what other inexpensive mods would you suggest? I have read the free ram air mod but is it really worth it??

port and polish you maf its free. check out installuniversity.com.

Porting & polishing the throttle body is a good idea IMO, but messing with the MAF is not a good idea IMO. I would say you are around 315-320 RWHP level. If you could define what is inexpensive to you, that would help us direct you mod wise. ;)

Auto or manual? What do you consider inexpensive?

You can also remove your second baffle in your hood pretty easily. It has a few pop rivets that can be easily drilled out. Sealing your hood to your airbox helps too. You pretty much have to create your own seal, as no one seems to sell the kit anymore. I used some foam, cut it out to match the airbox and seal to the hood, then ran some mechanic's wire through it to wire it to the airbox clamps. Took about 30 minutes, and it changed the sound and pull from the snorkels. Sealing helps keep the air cool and prevents the hotter air from entering, resulting in a tiny bit more power.

can you post some pics of how you have it sealed

Here's a few quick shots. It's no BGRA, but it works and was free...

thanks. so this really helps

They used to sell a kit that was custom molded plastic with weatherstripping to seal the airbox to the hood. It was referred to as BGRA or BG Ram Air http://www.geocities.com/brian98rama..._Air_Pics.html. They quit making them for some reason, and now you can only get replacement parts for it http://www.afterthoughtsauto.com/bg-ram-air.html. The BGRA kit also had plastic inserts to straighten out the cooler air and removed the baffles.
My setup is not as good as the BGRA, but it is better than stock because it seals the airbox to the hood's nostrils and keeps hot engine compartment air out of the airbox. Several people here have done similar things to seal theirs. Cooler air makes more power. Like I said, you can hear a difference. It feels a bit more responsive, but probably only adds a couple HP.
