Did a search on this but found no info. Was wondering if the LS7 crank will fit a LS1/6 block. The main specs are the same according to the GMPP catalog. Coming from the Mustang world I'm a little spoiled by the cost and strength of the Cobra crank, hoping to luck out with the GM stuff too. I'm looking for a forged crank to build a 383.
Just use an Eagle or the new Compstar crank. The ls7 crank has a longer snout (dry sump oil system I guess), and it has a 58x reluctor, which would require you to use a newer pcm.
I've done machining before and personally don't like Eagle anything. I will look into the Compstar, which I believe is Callies? The price of the LS7 crank is what got my attention. May call Doc Meyer and see what he says.
If you are starting bare bones IE: no pcm or anything, then all you would have to do is machine the snout on the crank and buy a pcm that is setup for a 58x reluctor. You may be money ahead that way. I honestly couldn't tell you the price differnece. FWIW I went with a callies Dragoonslayer crank in my build.
I thought maybe GM sold the 24X 12559353 wheel in the GMPP catalog to replace the 58X. How much longer is the snout do you know? The crank is less than $750 most of the places I have contacted.
I really don't know how much longer the snout is, but it is long enough to have to machine it. You can have the reluctors changed out. check Speedinc.com for a price on the compstar crank. I think it is like $805.
Also, you may have to add a lot of tungstan to the ls7 crank? The Compstar sounds good and callies may rough balance it for you. $800 sounds like a really good price to me.
Also the ls7 crank is very heavy.
