MAF Problem?

2000 Camaro SS

Quick summary of my problem-
Car was running fine until this morning.
The Service Engine Soon light came on/flashing and the car started running rough.
Within 3 miles it got progressively worse until the car eventually stalled and would not start again.
After having the car towed back to my house I ran the codes and got P0101 and P0301.

I've seen where the MAF can make the car run rough, but now it won't start at all?

Has anyone experienced this?

I figure i'd start with:
Cleaning MAF/replacing plugs & wires.
If that doesn't work, replacing MAF.


Any other suggestions?

yeah....I would think the car should definitely start. 301 is a misfire cylinder 1 in case you haven't looked it up yet......sure it wasn't a p0300 which would be random multiple misfires? Might pull those plugs and see what they look like....maybe they're just all fouled or something??

P0101 MAF
P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire

The circuit board on the side of MAF was missing the cover and was covered in sludge. I figured that had to be it. I reset the codes, replaced the MAF........the car does the same thing--starts upvery hard, runs rough for a few seconds, and dies.
P0101 and P0301 did not come back. However, it threw a P0108 (MAP High Output) briefly, which went away and will not come back. I find it very unlikely that the MAF and MAP went at the sametime.
The car is getting fuel, the car is getting spark.

I'm at a loss.

Any ideas?

Try another MAF, anybody you know with another LS1 that'll let you run their MAF for few minutes maybe

The MAF code did not come back after putting a new DELCO one in.....

Ahhh I missed that part. Have you pulled the plugs?

Check the plug wires, one of them may have pulled off. I was at the track last month and when I left the line and hit 2nd gear my SES light started blinking. One of my plug wires came off, I still ran a 14.6 on 7 cylinders. Check the wires. :true:

Check your "ENG SENS" fuse.

You said you were getting fuel...did you check fuel pressure with an actual fuel gauge at the rail? If so, what fuel pressure reading did you get?

ENG SENS Fuse is fine.

Wires are connected.

I didn't check the pressure with a gauge.The fuel pump fires up when the key is on. If i push the valve with a screwdriver fuel squirts out. Repeat key on and there is pressure again.
I do need to check it with a gauge.

But first, I'm going to take the valve cover off..from doing some reading I think it may be a broken valve spring.

It is definately a broken valve spring.
Can anyone recommend a good stock replacement set?

do you ever plan on a cam? If so don't replace them with oem...get aftermarket springs. Comp cam 918 springs are pretty popular.

Those are the ones I'm running.

Not really thinking about a cam. Should i just go with stock replacements?

I have a stock cam.

Stock are much cheaper..dilemna.

the stock ones are also the very reason you're in the situation :D Not really much of a decision in my opinion. :D Because of the stock valve springs you're 1 dropped valve away from needing a new motor.

Good point......leaning toward the 918's.

Should i get the 918 kit with new seals, retainers, keepers, etc?

Does this cover the install? Do i just torque to spec as i go? or do i have to torque them in a specific order in TDC position?
