so i have a bad bearing in the bottom end, and the ol lady aint happy. i want to make this cost as little as possible of course, and i have been looking at some options..
pull the engine, replace the bearings and massage or replace the crank if needed...
buy 5.3 liter and shove it in there just to get it driveable so she will shut up...only problem with this is i dont know what else i would need to make it work....
Cheapest would be to rebuild it.

It was a good engine to start with..
A stock spec Ls1 would still be powerfull, fast, reliable, and modable..imho
I would probably just go with a short block assembly and be done with it.

yea see the thing is i havnt seen a short block reasonably priced.....if im gonna pay $1600 for a short block, i would rather throw another thousand and get a crate engine..i have decided to replace the bearings, timing chain, install ls6 oil pump, and maybe, just maybe, a cam and stall, depending on how much sweet talk the boss.
what about the rings? while your in there its just cheap insurance ya know? if you do go with stall and cam dont forget to include the price a good set of springs, pushrods and dyno tune.
Check with Scoggin Dickey,they had a ls6 long block for $3400 a while back

i have thought about the rings as well, but i am unsure if i wanna do that yet...nothing for these engines is cheap and that includes head gaskets....i have thought about springs and tune as well....thats why i am only certain on replacing the oil pump, timing chain, and bearings.Quote:

You're forgetting the labor of assembly...that block will need to be bored to fit the 408 pistons.Quote:
