You live in California, & WANT to remove the A/C?!?
That's just wrong, ...
Makes no sense unless it is a track car only.
And even if it is a track car only, you have a long ways to go on mods to reduce et & add mph, before a little weight removal will gain that much.
Well I may live in cali, but I never use the a/c, so why not get rid of it and clean up the bay a little.
Plan on keeping it forever for yourself?
If not, & might wanna sell it or trade it someday, ..., Don't do it.
Just not a wise decision, IMO.
A/C compressor is at the bottom & you don't see it anyway.
Cleaning up the engine by removing a couple hoses & the dryer is not gonna make that much difference, ..., again In My Opinion.
Well thanks for your opinion, but its still going away.
You'll need to evacuate the refridgerant and oil from the system first. I wouldn't just cut the lines. After that, you'll need to remove all the hoses and equipment. I personally just removed the belt, and left the rest. That way it doesn't produce any drag, but it still can be used again with minimal work. To each his own though.
Sweet. I wasn't planning on cutting anything, just a clean removal. Do you know a part number for the new belt? Or is there a tensioner that can be put in place to re use the belt?
Also, you say you plan on a clean removal. You plan to remove the evap. and condensing coil from the system? It's pretty involved, and I don't know if it can be done with the system still under pressure. You could risk injury - possibly serious, if you try.
My car had the A/C taken out when I bought it. I wish it was still there & I live in Illinois!

Thanks, but it does get warm without the A/C.
Good luck with taking yours out.
does the defrost cycle use the A/C compressor? i'm not sure but i think it might - you wouldn't want to be w/out defrost, whether it freezing temps or fogging windshield..
when i took mine out i losened up where the hoses bolted up and just let it slowly leak out after i couldnt hear it i just started unbolting and it was out in 45 minutes i didnt have a cut anything
im sure it is other wise u gotta take it to a shop and have them take out all the free on. just dont get caught letting it out lol
Haha, oh yes, big fine!!!
thats what i hear lol
