ATV Electrical help!
Ok ATV forums suck when it comes to getting help.
Gonna try you gearheads. I need fresh minds on this I am stumped.
ATV is a Honda 1987 Fourtrax TRX200.
Getting NO spark.
First thing I did was throw a plug in. Its the same plug as factory gaped to factory spec. .28
No spark....
So I stick my voltmeter on the high tension coard (spark plug wire) to ground....nothing.
Attach the meter + to the black/white wire going into the coil and the - on the coil terminal the wire connects to. Hit the starter button, I get 30+ volts. So I replace the coil.
Still no spark.
Now mind you starter and lights work. Bike ran AWESOME day before I had no spark.
I am thinking CDI box. Stator tested ok on resistances as repair manual states.
Any idea guys before I buy a 100$ cdi box?
Does the coil need a curtain amount of volts before it hits the plug?

Just did some more searching. Looks like coil requires 100+ volts into it. And the Stator needs to put out 100+
Guess if the stator doesnt put out 100+ its the stator...if it does put out +100 then its the CDI box?
Plus theres like 5 wires comming out of the stator...which one I test....these damn manuals suck.
Please chime in.

I feel your pain. Good luck on this. I just went through it with the boat. No spark. Does the bike have a kill switch and have you tested the switch? Mined ended up being a short.

cdi boxes go bad on those old hondas. its very unlikely something like a stator goes bad, normally theres a contact problem if anything

Most likely CDI! Try to find a used one on eBay for half the price!
