What are these wires for?
I was messing around with my plastic dash cover thingy that trims out the radio, a/c vents, and a/c controls. My car doesn't have the traction control but where the button should be ( next to the fog light switch ) there is the block off. But it still has wires that plug into the back of the block off. Could I just get a t/c switch and hook it up to make it work? Thanks.

I would GUESS that GM uses generic wire harness, to cover all the options for the vehicles, so if your vehicle does not have traction control (as mine does not) they place a block off plate in front of the wire that would be used to connect it up.

I hate to say this, but the traction control option from the factory is not just a ABs thing, there is a ASR module that pulgs into the throttle body for the computer to physically move the gas pedal if needed.
All cars will tell you if the vehicle has low traction, even mine does and I do not have traction control at all. Any time the computer senses that the front wheels are traveling slower/faster than the rear wheels the low traction light will illuminate. This does not mean you ahve traction control.

So I should just be able to look in my dash behind the block off plate to see if it has the wires? i hope i dont have it...

well i figured out that if you dont have the sensors in the hubs then you dont have traction control. it is just a generic wiring harness gm used. gosh dang i forgot how long ago i started this thread

Even if your car does not have TCS, the wiring harness will still be there!

Black- 1996 Impala SS
Hi everybody, new member. I have decided to trade in my 96 Impala SS for a Camaro. I fell in love as soon as I drove my buddy's 00 SS. I found a 2000 SS for sale with a 6 speed. I just noticed that it doesn't have traction control. I am coming from a 96 Impala which is tail happy as anything in the rain/snow and it only has the LT1. I barely drive it in the snow, so that's not really an issue, but the rain is. My questions are: do I really need TCS on an LS1 car and can I add TCS without too much difficulty if I decide I need it?

i have had mine for 3 1/2 years with no problem yet without TC. it helps but i dont think you need it tho. it will get tail happy tho, even in the dry pavement.
BTW- welcome on here

Black- 1996 Impala SS
Yeah, driving my friend's '00 let me find out how far sideways these cars can go. He swears by T/C in the rain.
Thanks, glad to be here.Last edited by Bowtie9496; 11-20-2007 at 05:54 PM.

08 Mustang GT/CS Blue- 2002 Trans Am WS6 traded
So do we have a concrete answer to the TC w/out button question? I'm curious... is there not an RPO code we could check rather than searching for wires on the axle?
