Ignition Orange/Black- 2008 G8 GT, 98 Z28 383
Strange Code
I started my car last night and got the same tone that it gives when you put it in drive while the parking brake is still engaged and the LCD said "safety mode reduced performance." I figured maybe it was something to do with the Heat Sink because it was 19 degrees out, or the dyno tune I just had done. Anyone had this happen to them?
I shut it off and started it again and got the same message with the check engine light on. As I drove it, it felt like I had about 200 HP instead of the normal 400. When I stopped to get dinner and came back outside an hour later, it was back to normal. No tone, no check engine light and all my horses were back. WTF!?
Any help is appreciated guys.

Well I took it to the dealershit today and they took all of the codes out. There were 14 total. The service tech said he has never seen so many codes at one time. He said to bring it back by on monday if it starts in again and I will most likely need a new computer. There goes the 500$ dyno tune I paid for if it happens...

well, before you do that I would diagnose the car and backtrack your steps. First off what were the codes? Secondly have you done anything lately that would've gotten the pcm wet? Wash the engine with a hose or anything like that? Who tuned the car and what software did they use? Did this start immediately after the tune? What are your mods?
You can probably explain to your tuner the situation and he might work with you on the tune. I'm sure he still has your file saved.

Yes^^^^ Low battery will do this. 2ndly I would definetly get with the tuner...the KR will also do this....if it is out of specs for whatever reason....

I agree it could be a lot of things and regardless of what you always hear or people always tell you it's rarely the pcm.

Absolutly, if you trust your tuner take it back to him first. He may just have to tweek something or straighten things out.

Thanks for the help guys. I changed out the battery cause it has been time for a new one anyways. The tuner is going to look at her next time he comes down here. Hopefully the problem doesn't repeat itself until next week when he does.
The only mods I have are Ported intake and TB, Tune, Headers/Exhaust and CAI.

those maf codes are what put you into reduced power mode or limp home mode as it's called. The braking and traction control codes could be and are probably related. You say you have a ported TB, who did the porting and how long ago before these codes? Was there any work done around the TB, MAF, or intake tract lately that might've kicked those MAF codes?
At the end of the day I could be totally wrong but I would personally chase those codes down before I let someone swap out the pcm.

Yeah how long ago was the "tune" done before the issue started?
Also are you running a "wet" style air filter?Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

If you have a ported TB do you have the wire mesh on the TB, for some reasons that makes a big difference, and I agree with the battery thing had that problem myself. From your bio you have the headers, exhaust, and cia and to me you would need a tune but if the wire mesh is gone and you are under 500 hp that may be a problem, just MHO, good luck, Jack

I am running the K/N CAI with the mesh still on the tb. It started about two months after the dyno tune. Since I got the new battery no check engine light though, so I am keepin my fingers crossed that the battery was the problem. I also called the tuner and he said he will fix it for free if it is a problem with the tune

Yeah I am going to exhaust all resources before I let them change the PCM. The porting and tune was done by Jeremy Formato. He has a very good reputation around here. It was about two months ago that I got the tune. Hopefully it was the battery....
I appreciate all the help guys.

Cool, the battery is a big part of these cars running right for sure, glad you did not remove the mesh.
