ARP Head Bolts
I have a 2004 GTO, and am doing a Head/Cam change, and am putting ARP head bolts in. The problem I have is; LS engines produced from January 2004 forward on have a new, "short" style head bolt design. Bolts are 5mm shorter than previous design. Thus my problem, My car was made in Jan 04, But does it have an 2003 built motor?
Here is the number off my block - VF032761775, and my VIN# ends in - 24L221841
Can anyone out there help me? I'm scheduled to have it put together this coming weekend, and I had bought the 04 "short" bolts. I may need to exchange them, and time is running short.
Where would I find this Info at? I looked all over GM/Pont. com and couldn't find anything.

Yes, Thanks. They didn't have any idea. I talked to my GM dealer again today and He called GM Performance. They said GM made a change mid 03 to early 04, and that block # and VIN # I gave them would not tell what year the motor was built. He told my dealer that when I took it apart it would either have 3 different size head bolts, or 2 different sizes. Thats when I'd know which I had. You would think there would be a better way. Anyone know the answer to this. In the GM Performance Catalog (2007) it lists 2 different part #s, but both have the same amount of bolts only difference is the 5mms. I guess I'll find out this weekend. Thanks for your reply.

Impulse Blue- 2004 GTO
There was a breakdown posted somewhere but I can't find it. Do you have the old LS1 water pump or the new style late LS1-LS2 pump? I beleive those were changed when the head bolts changed.
Hit up Gene Culley at GMparts house. He posted the info breakdown when he was with Fred Beans.Rob

HI Rob, I'm not sure which one I have. What do I look for to tell the difference. Didn't get started on the old girl this weekend as planned. Should have the converter in tonight, and the exhaust hooked back up. Doing the converter at another place that has a lift. A guy named Jason is doing the work for me, and He is in Kansas City(about 140mi from me), so I can't go see the car. I have the knowledge to do the work, but not the health, so I have to trust others. He has done quite a few GTOs in the KC area, and came highly recommended, but its still hard to sleep at night.
