Stupid question about my Camaro
Don't laugh...but I bout an 00 camaro last week at a lot and the sticker said 00 z28 but when I went to the insurance company and on the carfax they pulled it up as an SS from the VIN number and the tire company said they had only seen SS camaro's with the tires that are on my car. But the car doesnt have the hood or rims or anything resembling an SS. What is up with that and is there some way that I can figure it out....If so please help because it is really bugging me....

I've had my car insured in two states, both cards said "Camaro Z28/SS" As far as they're concerned their risk is the same...

There is a way to tell if your car is a true SS.
Look at the "Service Parts Identification" tag on your drivers side door.
There will be several letter/number codes on this sticker.
If your car is truly an SS, you will see the code WU8
If that code is not present, I'd find another insurance company - if they are trying to charge you more.
My insurance company does not separate a Z28 from a SS.

Mine isn't even a Z28, it's a B4C and my insurance card says Z28/SS. Any V8 'maro will say that, you really don't need to worry about it I promise. Heh, I didn't realize you were a girl, your username peaks my interest now that I know

The reason why is because there is nothing in the VIN that tells the difference between a SS and Z28. Even when I run my VIN on NADA it'll give me the option between a Z28 coupe, Z28 vert, SS coupe and SS vert and I know my car is a Z28 coupe

All SS coupes are built using the Z28 platform. Even the SS LEs are Z28 based but with additional options/sticker content. Concure with VChula, check your build sticker (Driver's door) and see if there is a WU8 listed. That is the only way to tell, without contacting GM, if your car is an SS, also referred to as a Z28/SS (Option content) or just a Z28.

If your door is missing the "Service Parts Identification" tag, it is possible that the previous owner either removed it, had the car repainted, or had the door replaced due to an accident. It might be worthwhile to obtain a CarFax report on your car to collect any possible collision data.
You can call any GM dealer to see if your car carries the WU8 code. They just need the last 8 digits of your cars VIN number. They can also tell you if your car has a dealer service repair history.
If your car does have the WU8 code, it could have been a vehicle theft recovery, or had the SS parts stripped off, then transferred to another car by the previous owner.
In my experience, insurance companies and body shops don't seem to know what option code WU8 means when it comes to getting the correct "SS" specific replacement parts.

Try calling this number (GM) with your VIN: 800.222.1020. They can get more specific about your car. You can also call SLP at (732) 349-2109 and obtain your SLP #. Hope this helps out some.
