A Mach 1 can hold its own against an LS1, very respectable car IMO. We still have a slight advantage tho lol

The '03/04 Cobra has to be the best Mustang Ford ever built, because of the supercharger of course. The Mach is potent in stock form, but once the bolt-ons come into play the LS1 is the easy take over.

So what in the hell is the difference between the Mach 1, Cobra, Shelby, GT500, and any other name they throw on an overpriced Mustang?

Depends on the year lol. The 99 Cobras if i remember correctly were actually "over rated" sadly. The 01 Cobra and 03/04 mach 1s are similiar to each other and can keep with our LS1s stock vs stock (but we still have a slight edge on them). The 03/04 Cobras are clearly faster than an LS1.

The 05-09 Mustang GTs were slower than us still. The new 2010 Mustang GT is supposed to have the same "tweaks" they did to the recent Mustang Bullit that they release (so like 315hp) and if thats the case will still fall short from an LS1. And the GT500 is a better overall car than the 03/04 Cobra, minus the weight issue (the styling is going to vary person to person tho), so its clearly faster than an LS1 still.

The amber in the tailight was for just one year... the 99. The previous poster is correct, they were overrated, but you could go to the dealer for the correction. It brought the 99 & 01 up to 320HP. The Cobra was only offered in R form in 2000, which made 385HP from a 5.4 N/A motor. You could only get a 2002 Cobra in Australia.

    1999 Cobra

Note the stock appearing hood. Also, the front fog lights are very important. Also, the fascia does not extend as far down as the 03/04.

Note the rear wing, which is from the older GT models.

    2001 Cobra

Pretty much the same thing, except for the spoiler change.

    2003 or 2004 Cobra

A good view of the front end.

A view next to a certian car own by a 'Mr. Lous'. If I recall... he couldn't seem to hang that day.

    A slightly modified 03 Cobra.

Boost is just artificial displacement. So that is kind of meaningless to say.

Where do you come up with adding 20k? Since Ford MSRP'd the car at just over 32k, or about 7k more than a GT? And it is a much nicer car than a GT. Not that the GT was ever a real nice car.

And your comment got me thinking. A base Vette is still around 50k, and a ZR1 is about 100k. So they charged 50k for a blower, using your "logic".

Welcome to last year bro, and a new vette off the gm floor can be had for the mid 30's. At any rate how did you dig up this old thread?

That really depends on what's been bolted into and onto the Mach 1.

Most OBVIOUS way to know 4 sure if its a supercharged 03 - 04 Cobra is the SPOILER on the trunk. Older cobra spoilers are lifted off the trunk..."terminator" cobra's spoilers sit flat on the hood and stick out a lil bit!

I don't consider heads and cams bolt-ons either, but seems the LSx community does.
