White- 1998 Pontiac Firebird
Not sure what is wrong!!!
I have 1998 Firebird with a 3800 II, teh car has run fine since i have owned up until a couple weeks ago... Whenever i drive and it gets up to temp it bucks severely... It doesnt do it when it is cold... It usually only does when i am accelerating but the other say it did when i was cruising... I just replaced the plugs and wires...I heard a couple different things from my local mechanics about it but none were to sure...they said possibly the MAF is bad, the ECM may need to be reflashed, and something about the surge canister solenoid... but i am completely lost...i dont want to spend big money on a new MAF if the isn't the problem... Any help you guys could give me would be grealty appreciated... Thanx

The check engine light isn't on but it might be burned out...i put my scanner on it and it keeps telling me the MAF has no activity...but i was told that could be caused by a number of things..

If the Maf is dead I would not thing the car would run at all. Other things I can think of that would throw that code would be a bad wire to or from the Maf. The Maf being extremely dirty or having a Maf wire broke. The maf connector could be bad or have some type of corrosion in it. The PCM wire might be broken or the PCM could be having issues. Electronics have been know to temp sensitive. If you know someone with the same type of Maf and does not have any problems. Switch that maf to yours and see if the problem goes away. If it does not then its wiring, connector, or PCM related.

I'm gonna move this to the v-6 area so you'll get more specialized answers. The car will run with the MAF unplugged, it goes into speed density. You *may* be getting bad readings from the MAF though causing issues. It does sound like it's MAF related to me.

Holy shit, i keep seeing these same symptoms come up....if you get a P1406 code, or if there is a blinking "E" on the screen, its an EGR error. its a little valvle, front of the motor, drivers side, has 2-13mm bolts and a plug, take it off, hose it our with carb cleaner, if that fixes it, then you need a new EGR. cleaning it fixes it, but only for about 2 weeks. i finally replaced mine last week.
a new one will run you about $150, and you can install it yourself, you also need a $2 gasket, and they tend to be tricky to find.

So you're suggesting he toss the car because of one faulty part? jeez if I did that I'd have been through a dozen cars by now.
This is a camaro forum, people come here to get answers to their problems, if you're not going to contribute constructively, then keep your mouth shut.
Back to the task at hand....got an update on the car yet?
