Thats what i was thinking too.

It was so ackward that he ran out of gas. but thats my rule when i travel to places that i dont know, I never let the tank fall bellow 1/2. some people call it pointless, I call it smart and taking an extra step towards safetey.

Definitely. I try to never let the light come on. Mostly for two reasons: spare the fuel pump and running out of gas really sucks balls.

US Customs did you a favor. They let you skip "Primary" and sent you to "Secondary Inspection". That put US territory between you and the bad guys. That also put US Customs officers (armed Fed officers) in between you all. The secondary officers knew the basics of the story. You can also bet that Border Patrol was notified.
