oh mybad I guess i let it get too of topic...
he tells me hie's been having some issues so I tel him to show me. well he gets on it
and at about 75, his rpms are hanging aroung 3300-3500 and all of a sudden his car shoots to about 6500 and hooks like crazy. but it's not a good kind of jump.
what's the deal on that?

it's an a4... he says it doesn't have a shift kit or anything.
it's has the y87 package, so it has an lsd rear, and i think higher rear end gears? I'm not sure what all y87 covers..
tonight he had me and my dad drive it to see what the deal was (my dad has worked for GM almost 10 years)
it seems like a trans issue. but it's got a new trans with only a few thousand miles on it....
i notice that if you go from a dead stop and punch it (as if you were racing) it will go to about 6400 rpm, then shift to the next gear... drop to around 2500 then it will go to about 4.5-5k then it gets to the next gear. drops to about 3k then it kicks and takes off hard (like the115 plus last kick) but goes to about 6500 and sputters(because it's overrevving) you have to let off a bit then it shifts fine into the next gear. then it will kick again and get you to around 135...
car has power i never thought a 6 had.
if you drive it normal rpms hand around 1800-2k i mea it drives very nicely... but is the rpm thing something to worry about??

If i rember right that 98 A4 should have come with 3.42's as part of the Y87 package. It really does sound like a trans issue, even though it's new. You want to be careful with it hanging at such RPM's, worst case the gears stick and don't shift you redline and blow the motor sky high. Did he come clean on what he's had done to it? There's not way he's hit over 120mph stock. Again the gov. kicks in and regulates.

he says it's been reprogrammed, and that's it...
but idk.... I mean my first v6 dyno'd 245 hp, and it didn't like to hit over 130.
and my dd bird now... she'll shut u down at 118 stock.
see I'm thinking it's something with that damn (I guess would be 3rd running gear? I'm not sure how auto trans work) trans...
It's scary to see any f-bod get into that rpm range.... I DON't EVEN LET MEPHISTO do crazy shit like that....

SOM- 99 Trans Am
Have him get the car professionally tuned. My T/A did all sorts of weird shit like the converter would just unlock at high rpms and i lost a good amount of power. Had it dyno'd and tuned, and it all went away. That sounds more like an electrical issue to me..

The bird you have now shuts down at 118 because thats what all v6 birds are programmed to shut down at. Only way to get higher is to take out the governer or reprogram. What did you do to your first v6 to get 245 out of it thats a hell of a lot for a 6 without forced induction or anything

my best guess is that when they reprogrammed, assuming is was running normal before, someone messed around with the shift points. Could be something in the setting. did he do it or a buddy? If its a news trans I was less inclinded to believe that was the issue one you found out for sure it was programmed.
