7 years later and your post is still helping people. I feel pretty stupid for not bothering to figure this out sooner. I have just been driving around getting strangled by my seat belt.
I have done a lot more complicated work but if you have never done this on any vehicle before then your post is exactly what is needed. I saw retainers being sold for convertibles on Ebay and thought I might buy those until I read this, now I am ordering the proper ones today and will be back to perfect in a few minutes after the parts arrive. It is particularly helpful to list things like socket types and sizes along with where to purchase them for cheap if you don't have them. Also how to handle odd fasteners rather than just breaking them and figuring it out later. Also of course any torque numbers. Finally the photos are a huge help for any instructional post. Parts numbers even though I don't need them to boot. Very complete guide sir. So fantastic job and thank you very much!

BTW I got OEM guides for both sides off Ebay for $13.00 shipped. Nice and cheap.

    Thumbs up

Mine just broke due to a passenger putting way too much weight on it while getting in. Simple fix but, never hurts to have a visual before beginning. Thanks!
