Great write up I've had 315's for awhile and I still need the bumpstop mod. Tired of jacking the car up from the rear axle. Some ass at discount bent the bottom of my dif cover it looks like.

I found a guy to widen my stock LE rims.
I want it to look like this:

but stock looks like this:

Note: neither pictures are of my car.

The company I found will add 2" to the inside of the rim, but that wouldn't push the outside lip of the rim outwards.

My question is: How do I get a different offset on the stock rim? Is there a spacer that can be used? If there is such thing as a spacer, are they safe?

BTW: $200 each to modify the stock rim to add up to 3" of width. I want to take the 17x9 to 17x10.5 or 17x11.

If I only go 10.5" wide, will I have to grind the bumpstop, etc, when using a 315 tire?

I had www.weldcraftwheels.com do mine they turned out fantastic.

You will need spacers from www.skulte.com if you want to push the wheels back out. They are perfectly safe.

My wheels needed no spacers I took 17x9.5 to 17x10.5 by adding 1" to the back, which increased backspace from 7.1" to 8.1" and a hammer to the inside wheel well made them fit. I wanted the tucked in look so that suited me just fine, meaning the outside lip is exactly where it was stock and all my extra 315 tire was added to inside.

Those guys can add to the outside too if you want! It just costs more $$.

Yes, I've been talking to weldcraftwheels.
I don't mind the spacers, but I don't want to pound or cut anything. I want the lip to be like the top picture. I can get a 315 BFG onto a 10.5" rim. I can't add to the outside of the rim, because as you see in the pictures, the stock rim doesn't allow that (Weldcraftwheels says).

Maybe a 305 on a 10.5" rim won't rub???

What is the backspace now of the stock rim? Take a straight edge and lie it across the very back edge of the wheel and measure down in inches to the mating surface and I can help you figure it out. Mine started at 7.1 and ended up at 8.1 - I could have added more to get a 'real' 11" rim but I did not want to use a 1/2" spacer. Just pure laziness in having to deal with spacers, I have nothing against them and have used them in the past.

Just put a spacer on it if all you want is for the rim to be closer to the lip.

If I put 305/35/17 goodyears f1s on 17 X11 do you think any mods will be necessary? I really dont want to start beating on my car but at the same time, I want wide ass tires on there. Anyone have this set up or know if there will be rubbage?

You might wear out the centers with to small of a tire.

I think 305's on a 10.5 inch wide rim would be better than putting 305's on a 11 inch wide rim. 315's are perfect for a 11 inch wheel. Any smaller and it might wear the centeer out.

on a 17x11, you will have from 275/40-17 to 315/35-17 PROPERLY mounted on the wheel.

not true... you can put a 275 on a 11" wide rim and not do that..

due to the widening, the new offset will be ~+24 to +25mm offset... Adding a 1" spacer or adapter will make the wheel equivalent to a 17x11 +50mm offset.
adapter is a spacer but due to its thickness, has his own studs.
