If you think NASCAR uses the same oil on the shelf at WalMart....pass the bong man
Trying to say NASCAR uses the same Mobil1 I buy at the store is like saying I get the same experience by watching the Super Bowl on TV rather than being there. Two big differences. NASCAR utilizes a 0-20 weight to qualify that is loaded with ZDDP. In the race they use a 0-30 that is loaded with friction modifiers. You cannot even come close to buying it friend. It is mixed up in the shop. Almost all the teams utilize a entire bottle of Valvoline VSOT in each sump regardless of what host oil they are using.

I forgot to say why 100 PAO basestock doesnt mean anything in the big picture. GRPIII is a highly refined basestock with very uniform molecular structure. So having a PAO these days doesnt really get you any benefits. It is all about the add packs. So a oil can be GRPIII and have great add packs and kick the hell out of a 100% PAO.
And for the record...when AMSOIL came out with it's GRPIII product line...at least they had the ethics to tell everybody.....and it is cheaper than the AMSOIL 100% PAO line of products. Mobil1 just went GRPIII and jacked the price up even more. That is lower than whale shit in my book. This is my signature. It is mine. Nobody else has one like it.

hey Sarge - i'm glad you are back as i've been waiting for some oil input from you. I've used mobil 1 for the past 2 years but now am switching. Which of the amsoil oils should i use??
ASL SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil
or
XLF - XL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil
or a different version of amsoil- they have so many choices.
My other option I was considering is penzoil platinum. There is obviously a big price difference between the two companies. Do you think it is worth the extra $$ for the amsoil?

I did my best to semi-inform while Sarge was gone....
Although no one believed me.
Sarge...
Which oil now??? Looks like VP changed it up a bit. I am on a fresh change now and have 6 more quarts of the 5w-30 for the next change.

all of the ls1,that i know of make that tapping noise, almost sounds like lifter taping, i dont know why they make that noise, when i first got my car back in 2002, i thought there was something wrong.

I agree with the noise. When I used 10w30 it would make it, but with 5w30 it does not.

Hey man....yeah Amsoil is a great company. I think their marketing/distribution sucks donkey balls....but damn good oil.....I recommend paying the $20 bucks and getting the preferred customer pricing (same as dealer) about 20%-25% off retail cost. So Amsoil is cheaper than Mobil1 with the preferred customer....but seriously this Pennzoil Platinum is some damn good stuff....Advanced Auto just had a buy one get one free...and will have it again in June on all Pennzoil Platinum....hell at $2.75 per quart it cannot be beat.....but Amsoil is some seriously great fricking oil.....
