write up: How to replace the stock subs with eu700s

I wish i shot photos through the whole job. For this, you will need;
_ 2, eu700 dual 4 ohm speakers
_ Speaker wire
_ Sound deadener [2, 12x12 sheets]
_ 1/4" thick foam core and xActo knife
_ 8, self driving steel screws, about 1.5" long
_ power drill
_ fbody wiring diagram http://www.thirdshiftstudios.com/monsoon.zip

Step 1, purchase the dual-4ohm eu700's

step 2, remove stock monsoons and throw them at zboner

(don't worry about keeping the screws or the little clips that the screws hold on to.) I suggest keepin the little wireing harness.

step 3A, cover the area with sound deadener and cut out a whole where the speaker goes.

step 3B, the eu700s are free air speakers that have a port in the back of them. The port needs to breathe freely or they won't be able to perform. I suggest cutting out a hole in the B-pillar support using a 1.5" bit. This picture marks where to cut:

Step 4, the eu700s are very DEEP speakers and will need a spacer to pull them away from the support beam that goes through the B-pilar. Use this diagram to cut out a hole from a 9.25" square of 1/4" foam core

Step 5A, using the wiring diagram that you downloaded, find the positive line for the Left side. Using exta wire, splice the 2 positive terminals together and into the positive line. Now splice the 2 negative terminals together and into the negative line. See the diagram for more help:

Step 5B, repeat for right side. please note: each speaker line will have 2 unused wires, clip them and wrap them with electrical tape so they never contact anything else I don't know what these lead from, but per the wiring diagram, they aren't relevant to powering the speaker.

Step 6, Slide the foam core into place, you might have to pull on the interior panel to allow you access. Make sure the wiring harness is behind the foam core and sets in the little grove at the bottom. Note: the foam will have to be bent/crinked slightly to accomedate the "terrain" of the vehicle's speaker housing

Step 7, CAREFULLY maneuver the speaker into place. Now using the self-driving 1.5" screws, drill the speaker into place until they are firm.

Note: you may have to cut a tab from the bottom of the grill anchors on the interior panel so that it does not rest on the bottom of the speaker's lip.

feel free to contact me regarding anything. I was EXTREMELY pleased with the sound that resulted from this installation. The grills DO NOT rattle as i feared wich was even more pleasing.

Seems these EU 700's are discontinued.......wasn't sure about their replacements?

just installed the 3.6's in the phoenix...haven't really tested it out yet, but they bump pretty good @ 12:30 am

Took longer than i wanted, for some reason, the wiring wasn't going right, despite using what i wrote up years ago. I just can't figure out what it was, i tried alternate combinations, ended up going back to the correct wireing and suddenly they were bangin. i have a feeling it was b/c during testing i only had one pluged in not both, so i'm

but with both wired up according to the thread-they hit great, too bad the rest of the damn car buzzs though

i found some non-ED variants and put them in. they are 7" wide instead of 6.5 so i had to redo the holes but it ended up fitting in and I used it with a different amp so now bump bump bump...

Wife left before I did today, so i cranked the knob around 8am today. They sound good. A little drone-y but i think i can EQ that out. Happy to have some boom back.

its a good feelin to get the boomage going again! good luck with the eq part i'm struggling with that myself lol.

I have a 6 speaker Monsoon system in a Camaro RS with the 200 watt amp. Will these subs work with that amp? Friend of mine had some to try and they seem underpowered. Get more response and bass from the stock speakers. I thought there was a Monsoon system that came with a 1000W or 500W amp and thought maybe these subs were for that. I have D4's wired in parallel so each speaker is running at 2ohm, like the stock ones do.

Any idea what your initial problem was? I just got the 3.6's in the mail today. I bought the D4, and wired them in parallel (Camaro). I turned the radio on to compare my old vs. new and the new one you can barely hear compared to the crap stock woofer. I tried wiring them about 3 or 4 different variations, and the same thing. Even when I just wired one coil, it sounded the same.

i'm still not 100% satisfied with them, i think they are different than the EU700s. i'm considering amping them. I did notice they resonated/pounded much better when i bolted them in place-give that a try

Well, I decided to just go ahead and install both of them. The fronts are definitely louder than the 3.6s. I just had to use the fade on the stereo to blend it better. Sounds pretty good now. I'm really interested to hear the difference when my HU gets here next week. Also have the option to amp them down the road.

I'm a little disappointed in that I was expected a nice blend of highs and lows with this speaker. At this point, it's all lows. I plan on installing a 10" sub in the future, so I really need the sail panels to be clear and sound great. I hope I didn't just waste $95 on these.

knowing you were gonna put a 10" in-i would get rid of the midbass. The 10" is gonna be broad enough in such a small vehicle that you shouldn't need midbass.

Yeah, I'm looking at some Boston Acoustic speakers right now. I really want some nice clear highs and mids out of the rear speakers.

Hows the progress going? I'm going to be swaping all my speakers this year because I need to take the doors off to fix the cracks, so I figure I may as well go at them all since the subs are on thier way out.

Do you think I should go with the eu3.6? I hate working with the sail panel, but am equally tired of the crap sound coming out of the stockers.

well, you dont' have to remove the sail panel-it's quite flexible if you just pull on it. Frankly I'm not happy with the current speakers. the EU700 was better 3years ago when i had my other car. I just don't know if i messed up the install here or what.
