Aluminum Duke (LS-based inline 4-cylinder engine)?

    Disclaimer:
I was going to post this in "Almost Anything Goes", but I do not have a "new thread" button when in that section (?), so sorry if this post is in the wrong place.

Remember the old Iron Duke engine? I was an inline 4-cylinder based on the old Chevy 350. As a gross oversimplification, it was a Chevy 350 cut in half. Apparently it was also terrible, but that's not the point...

Has anyone ever done this with a modern LS engine?

    I've seen V12 and V16 LS-based builds, but never an I4.

I know this is not very sexy, but I figure half an LS will make plenty of power with a well-matched turbo setup. Plus, there are so many aftermarket LS parts that would work. The only major parts that need to be specialized are the block, crank, and cam. If done intelligently, the cylinder head (and pushrods and lifters) could be directly transplanted from an LSx and bolted right on.

Please reply if anyone knows of such a build, be it a GM Skunkworks project, aftermarket development, or backyard Engineering hack-job.

    Thanks!

I remember seeing somewhere that someone had tried to make a sort of “slant” four cylinder LS, at least 15 years ago; it was in a Car Craft magazine where there was a small blurb and a photo. I am sure that they didn’t get very far, especially after GM started putting the forced induction 2.0’s on rear wheel drive platforms.
